How do short-term rentals stack up against limited-service hotels? George Salas tackled this comparison head-on, explaining that it really depends on the property type. For larger homes—like the 4-bedroom rentals that are his specialty—there’s no competition. Hotels can’t match the space, comfort, and ability to host multiple families or groups under one roof. Guests would have to book multiple hotel rooms, which often ends up costing more. But when it comes to smaller units, like those in an apartment complex converted into short-term rentals, the competition gets closer. These rentals can directly compete with hotels, offering similar amenities but with a more personal, home-like experience. Dominican Republic. Super 8 by Wyndham, also known as Super 8, is a North American hotel chain operating the world’s largest network of economy hotels, with over 4,000 properties worldwide. Originally offering stays for just $8.88 per night, this marks the FIRST TIME in history that an international hotel brand will establish a presence in Rio San Juan, Cabrera, Cotuí, and La Vega in the Dominican Republic. These projects are part of Grupo De Valle's ambitious Vision2030 plan, aiming to build over 15 Super 8 hotels and ensure accommodations within 30 minutes of every city in the country. This $25 million USD investment includes 350+ rooms and will create over 200 local jobs. The hotels will feature a variety of accommodation options with soundproof, comfortable designs tailored to families, groups, couples, and solo travelers. “Rooms will include two-bedroom suites and standard options, equipped with modern technology, a restaurant, bar, and EV charging stations to meet the needs of all travelers,” stated Eng. According to CoStar Downtown Myrtle Beach Hospitality, the Myrtle Beach market comprises 274 hotel properties, which contain around 32,000 total rooms. Hotels tend to be larger in the area than in the typical U.S. market, but not by a huge amount. The average building has around 118 rooms, compared to the U.S. average of 88 rooms per building. There are 134 rooms spread between two projects underway in the Myrtle Beach market, representing a 0.4% expansion of the existing inventory.
