Just been promoted? If so, perhaps you're experiencing the 'career cat-flap* (*TM pending). Promotion can mean you're elevated out of your comfort zone into incompetence. The skills, knowledge and behaviours that got you this far won't necessarily be what you need to succeed moving forwards. Tentatively stepping into your new role, you feel uncomfortable leaving the old you behind. Your self-worth comes from the value you've brought to your work to this point. So you stay stuck, emotionally connected to your previous role and the old you. You fail to delegate. Or maybe you micro-manage. Either way, you demotivate your team. Furthermore, spending so much time trapped in your past working identity means you fail to create the conditions to focus on the future, big picture, the strategy etc. It's only natural for a career transition like a promotion to feel really bloody hard. If you're feline stuck (sorry, couldn't resist) in spite of the upsides of your deserved recent promotion, let's talk. Together we can find out what's holding you back and how you can get purring again. #careercoach #leadershipcoach #transition #workingidentity Pic by Nigel Jarvis on iStock

Just been promoted? Then beware the 'career catflap*' (*TM pending). Promotion can often mean you're promoted out of your comfort zone into incompetence. The skills, knowledge and behaviours that got you this far won't necessarily be what you need to succeed moving forwards. As you tentatively step into your new senior role, you feel uncomfortable leaving the old you behind. Your self-worth comes from the value you've brought to your work to this point. So you stay stuck, emotionally connected to your old role. At worst, you fail to delegate. At best, you micro-manage. Either way, you demotivate your team. Furthermore, spending so much time trapped in your past working identity means you fail to create the conditions to focus on the future, big picture, the strategy etc. It's only natural for a major career transition like a promotion to feel difficult. 🚨 Here’s a harsh reality: 🚨 If you think working harder, saying YES to everything, and doing whatever it takes to check every box even if it means burning out will get you promoted, you're WRONG. The truth is executing 2-3 key priorities with excellence is far more impactful than juggling 100 things with mediocrity. 🤯 Yet so many professionals—women in particular—fall into this trap, thinking if they keep their heads down and work harder, they'll eventually get noticed. Women often hesitate to say no because they fear being labeled the dreaded B-word. This is why I created Unstuck: A 30-Day Roadmap to Accelerate Your Promotion—to shed light on what it really takes to get promoted. It's not about doing more; it's about doing the right things and showing up in a way that gets you seen, valued, and elevated. ❌ Don’t go into 2025 doing MORE and still getting LESS. ❌ Let’s shift your mindset and strategy so you can finally unlock the next level in your career. Are you ready to get Unstuck? 💪 Drop a 🙋♀️ below or DM me if you're interested in learning more! https://lnkd.in/gRW9MYK4

Sometimes you can be chasing a role for the wrong reasons - it might be for money, expectation, or simply not knowing your value elsewhere. Don't get stuck in your own head with assumptions about your next career move. Sometimes, you need a bit of time and an outside perspective to see what's right under your nose. I am working with a phenomenal salesperson who was purely focused on landing a Senior BD role. I could see why - she has a stunning track record and it made sense given her ambitious goals. But something was missing—she wasn't excited. We took a step back and delved into what truly lit her up in her past roles. It turns out her real motivation is empowering others to achieve THEIR goals. This realisation was transformative and even though we both laugh at how obvious it seems, it wasn't at the time. I literally had goosebumps reading with her what she had written from the exercise I had given her, her language had totally shifted! So, before you dive straight into your next search, stop. Take a little bit more time to: - Self-reflect: What lights you up? What impact do you want to make? - Seek outside perspectives: Talk to past colleagues, friends, previous clients. They might see strengths you haven't noticed. - Challenge assumptions: Don’t just apply for the same roles out of habit. Taking the time to understand your motivations and what energises you can potentially take you down a different path, but one that is ultimately going to be more fulfilling and exciting. #CareerGrowth #JobSearch #Strengths #CareerAdvice

I said no to a promotion... and It paid off. Ever heard the myth, "Turn down a promotion and you're stuck forever"? Me too. And guess what? I said no. Not once, but twice. Here's the deal: I said no because those promotions just didn't fit. They weren't me. One was off my career path; the other didn't align with where I wanted my life to go. Scary? Sure. End of the world? Far from it. Why this myth needs to stop After those no's, I didn't just survive; I thrived. Climbed seven levels since. It shows how much that myth knew, right? Why Believing It Is a Big No-No If I had said yes out of fear, I'd be miserably off-track today. Saying no meant I stayed true to my goals, my plan. It’s about picking your battles and your ladders. What to Do Instead It's simple: Know your worth and your path. Not every shiny thing is gold for you. - Check if it fits: Does this role scream 'you'? If not, it’s okay to pass. - Talk about it: Saying no with reason shows you're thoughtful, not unambitious. - Keep looking for what really lights your fire. Quick tips for steering your career - Have a plan: Know where you're heading. - Keep the chat open: Your boss should know where you're aiming. Help them help you. - Learn from the pros: Find someone who's been there and done that. Their roadmap might spark ideas for yours. I learned it the real way: Saying no can be the best yes to yourself. It's not about grabbing every rung on the ladder but making sure each step takes you closer to where you really want to be. Trust me, your career isn't a one-size-fits-all journey. It's yours to tailor. #CareerDevelopment #PersonalGrowth #ProfessionalJourney #Leadership #CareerPath #StrategicDecisions #WorkplaceMyths #CareerAdvice #JobSuccess #ProfessionalGoals

Seven things I never regret…. 1. Letting go of the comfort of a salary to start something of my own. Growth happens when you get out of your comfort zone 2. Taking time-off to figure out my next career move. Its OK to take breaks if you need to sort things out. You don’t have to be on the treadmill all the time 3. Losing my job titles and rank (Captain, Sr Vice President) as I switched careers. If you want to move ahead, you have to leave something behind 4. Taking risks, despite knowing the odds. If you are not willing to risk something, chances are that your gains will be ordinary at best 5. Radical career decisions I made. You can live a predetermined and templated life or make bold choices to carve out your own path 6. Taking action and not waiting for the right time to act. There is never a wrong time to do the right thing 7. Dreaming big and bold. Don’t let anyone tell you what you can and cannot do in life. You have way more potential than you can imagine. Tap into it What do you NOT regret in your life? #motivation #personaldevelopment #inspiration #careers #leadership

18 years ago, I had a 1-1 meeting that changed my life. Till then, I had topped in most things. I had got what I wanted when I tried for it. So if I worked hard, I often saw results. Mistakenly, due to the protective atmosphere I had been in, I had a set perspective for what I assumed were good leadership skills. My first manager sadly did not fit into my requirements. In hindsight, I realise that my manager was doing their best in the way they knew it. I regret that the younger me gave them no credit. And I was too eager to make my own mark in the world. So my job at that time felt suffocating. And at a dead end. I knew there was "more". But didn't know what that "more" was. So I went to the skip-level boss and asked for a change to a vacant position. Though supportive, I was warned about how I may not qualify for this role. For the first time, I was thrown into unknown territory. It didn't come naturally. It took longer and the effort scared me. I failed many times. Felt really inadequate. I needed to learn more. And that sowed the seed to improve. I worked towards graduate school for the next six months. And started another career adventure. Career transitions can either be as planned as railway level crossings. Or you-never-see-it-coming lightning strikes in a thunderstorm Better to be prepared in any case. P.S. Always keep your mentors handy. P.P.S. If you don't have one yet, feel free to DM me. #careers #careerpivot
