AI is a great tool, but where do we draw the line as PRs? 🤔 For me, it’s when it starts to replace real conversations between us and the media. If journalists value one thing, it’s trust. And with more AI generated stories than ever coming from newsrooms, reliable sources like PRs become even more valuable 🤝 PRmoment asked team tigerbond to give our thoughts on the topic and I was delighted to share my insight having been on the ~ other ~ side of the newsdesk. New research from SmithGeiger's Q2 2024 survey reveals a fascinating trend: audiences are gradually warming up to AI-generated news content 🤖 📺, but skepticism still lingers. I explore the data in detail and provide some helpful strategies for news orgs in my latest column for TVNewsCheck. ✍️ Article Link: https://lnkd.in/eMfvhG_V I don't want to give too much away here (please read the article), but here's the key takeaway for broadcasters: embrace AI strategically in newsrooms but prioritize transparency and collaboration. 🤔 Broadcasters who embrace this trend will be better positioned to thrive in the AI-augmented future of journalism. 📈 🙌 Big thanks 🙏 to Andrew Finlayson (SmithGeiger Group), Aaron Ganek (Blazar Ventures), Brian Charles, PhD (Silver Lead & #MIT), David Schmeltzle (BizBudding Inc.), and Brian McNeill (Stringr) for sharing your valuable insights! 📊 #AI #journalism #localnews #broadcasting #media #futureofwork #newstech #transparency #collaboration Michael Depp Kathy Haley #TVNewsCheck #localmedia #ainews #hyperlocalnews

Earlier this month, a group of bipartisan senators introduced the Content Origin Protection and Integrity from Edited and Deepfaked Media Act (COPIED Act), a prospective bill aimed to limit companies use of artist, journalist, and songwriter’s original works, in the training of their AI models. If passed, this would prohibit companies from using content that creators have tagged with sourcing, thus protecting ownership of their work, and enabling them to sue entities who threaten it. The bill would necessitate the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)’s institution of new watermark, sourcing, and deepfake detection guidelines, to identify the provenance of AI content, and if it was altered, or originally created by the model. https://lnkd.in/gX7GBSaZ 📝 Aisha Malik : TechCrunch #ResponsibleTechnology #DataLegislation #AI #DeepFakes #COPIEDAct #NIST

I can just hear radio journalists around the world sounding like Paul Newman from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid: "THE FUTURE'S ALL YOURS, YOU LOUSY BICYCLE!!" There are already presenters raising the banner of threats to journalism and artistry from #GenerativeAI. Yet the true lesson for the media industry – and for #MediaDevelopment and #InternationalDevelopment projects in emerging democracies – is this: It is time to embrace #AI technology to become more efficient, reach new audiences across multiple digital platforms, and improve your ability to be financially sustainable. For those fearing the demise of labor, news reporting and editing still require the human touch – and stations can channel resources to financing the skills best suited for professional journalists. You may not have seen reports over the past few days, but Off Radio Kraków this week launched Poland’s “first radio station created almost entirely by artificial intelligence” with programs presented by three AI characters, each with their specific avatar, personality, and own set of interests – designed as an effort to re-brand the media outlet and generate content to reach new Gen Z audiences. Yet Radio Kraków is not the only trailblazer: Radio Piekary – broadcasting in the southern Poland city of Piekary Śląskie – greeted listeners in 2023 through “Basia”, an AI-generated presenter who went on to host the hour-long midday slot. Here in the US, Portland’s Live 95.5 debuted in 2023 what it claimed was the first AI DJ, modeled on the voice and speaking pattern of Michigan-based radio host Ashley Z Elzinga. Live 95.5’s Content Director Dylan Salisbury, highlighted that “AI Ashley” is able to update Portlanders on major news in the area at any time of day, which the real Ashley Elzinga, who lives and produces her program in Traverse City, MI, cannot do. If media development donors are not mandating the use of AI tools within every media assistance program around the world, those donors are undermining their own investments. It is time to embrace the future! #medialiteracy #socialmedia https://lnkd.in/eyZkQerb
