This is a great example of how to apply the Digital Twin concept: (1) a holistic approach integrating context-specific social data and the natural environment, (2) introducing an agent-based model, and (3) enriching a participatory process. The model digitally replicates the current scenario by real-time monitoring of diverse parameters, whose interactions could be analysed for further potential. It provides a comprehensive digital platform that reflects the region's master plan and will be able to support decision-making on reducing major negative externalities in the city, such as pollution and social inequities. Just by reading the article, it looks great! I recently completed the course on Digital Twins for Smart Mobility at UPC School (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya) in collaboration with Aimsun and promoted by EIT Urban Mobility. Thanks to the course I gained insights on a range of tools to cover the whole creation process, such as point-cloud scanning and data collection through IoT. Furthermore, it allowed me to understand the singularities of a Digital Twin compared to traditional simulation models, enabling me to critically evaluate this trend in transport and city planning. https://lnkd.in/dncFM29E
Digital Twin for Sarajevo: Professor Hubert Klumpner's chair designed the first AI-supported 4D model for Sarajevo. 🗺️ It takes spatial and temporal dimension into account in urban planning and was the basis for public hearings. “To map the complexity of the city, we need new methods, processes and technologies,” says Klumpner. MENTOR, the Municipality of Eleusis, 2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture and the Universities of the Aegean and Patras participate together with 10 other partners from Italy, Ireland, Spain and Belgium in the European project HeritACT. The 3-year project is implemented in the framework of #Horizon Europe and is based on the principles of #NewEuropeanBauhaus. During HeritACT, pilot participatory actions are being carried out in #Eleusis, #Milan and #Ballina. The aim is to implement innovative and inclusive design solutions, as well as cultural practices, through the participation of local communities. In Eleusis, 5 cultural heritage sites are activated, as well as the surrounding neighbourhoods: Old Soap Factory (Paleó Eleourgío), Iris, the Canteen (Anapsiktírio) at the city’s waterfront, the Eleusis Cultural Multi-site, and the outdoor space of the Oasis. I dag holder lektor Anne Romme en forelæsning om kunstneriske metoder på Det Danske Institut i Athen. Forelæsningen beskrives således: "With the increased focus on rethinking humanity's coexistence with nature, architecture needs to rethink the future of inhabitation. Anne Romme will talk about her work on new patterns of inhabitation, and how it has led to both imaginary and concrete proposals: Architecture for a flooded future, architecture for long overlooked and devalued feminine values - and how a fascination with the sea urchin shells has led to aerodynamic and floating houses, thin as eggshells and based on geometries that mimic nature."

Interesting things happen, when you mix knowledge pools. Thursday at the Italian Residence we gathered a diverse group of Danish and Italian researchers, practitioners and students around the theme “Coastal Landscapes - a Heritage at Risk” Climate change + Cultural heritage In practice + In research In Denmark + In Italy Some of my takeaways from the day was: 1. Why is it so difficult to stop building in areas prone to flooding? 2. Should we reinhabit abandoned villages? 3. How can we work with cultural heritage as a practice? 4. Can climate be heritage? 5. How do we take the increase humidity into account, and not only flooding, rain and groundwater? 6. And how do we tackle the economical forces that pushes for urban development along the low lying coasts? Thanks to 🙏The Italian Embassy, Università Politecnica delle Marche og Danish Architecture Center (Dansk Arkitektur Center), @Antonello Alici, Anna Aslaug Lund, Eva Kirstine Fabricius, Pernille Stockmarr, Ellen Braae, Nicolai Bo Andersen, Gertrud Jørgensen, Grethe Pontoppidan, Rikke Stenbro, Maurizio Brocchini, Massimo Sbriscia, Gaia Galassi, Stefania Rosini, Stefano Aquzzi, schønherr .

One step closer to a doctoral degree: My latest article connected to my PhD research has just been published online in the Periodica Polytechnica Architecture scientific journal! The article focuses on architectural walking tours as a means of built environment education and developing a sense of place among locals. The research was made possible with the ÚNKP grant in 2022/2023. The good practice of walking tours for 1st year students organized by the Department of Urban Planning and Design, Budapest University of Technology and Economics was taken as an example for the research, with the methodological approaches of KÉK-Kortárs Építészeti Központ / Contemporary Architecture Centre. "The urban walk genre is not only about guiding tourists through the world of urban heritage but is also an experiential educational genre accessible to all age groups and an urban development tool with a scientific context, which plays an important role in the development of a sense of place among locals, thus promoting sustainable neighbourhoods and sustainable tourism" Thanks to all, who helped in the realisation of this article! Another Leeds Architecture and Urbanism Research successful PhD has been concluded this week. Congratulations to Heng S., who successfully defended his thesis and passed his Viva, and for his hard work on an important topic, ‘A study of smart architectural heritage interpretation and practice framework based on two heritage management platforms in Shanghai, China’. Although this was not a PhD by publication route, Heng showed excellent skills in publishing three academic journal articles in the past two years and they are well cited. 1. Smart Heritage for Urban Sustainability: A Review of Current Definitions and Future Developments https://lnkd.in/ekyFYMs4 2. Smart Heritage Practice and Its Characteristics Based on Architectural Heritage Conservation—A Case Study of the Management Platform of the Shanghai Federation of Literary and Art Circles China https://lnkd.in/eTS2f7kZ 3. Historic Building Digital Management for a Liveable city: a Case Study Based on One Network Unified Management in Shanghai, China. Well done, Heng, for concluding this chapter, and good luck with a new one ahead 👏 University of Leeds #WeAreInternational
