🌱 Rebuilding Ukraine: Combining Tradition, Innovation, and Circularity 🇺🇦 #Rebuilding of #Ukraine is not just about infrastructure. It is a multidimensional challenge that includes preserving our culture and caring for the environment. That’s why ReThink participated in the "Urban Heritage Strategies in Times of Conflict" course. It provided a platform for sharing ideas about implementing circular #construction practices in Ukraine, focusing on #greenreconstruction while preserving historical #heritage. Our team, including the work of our CEO Roman Puchko, and urbanists Svitlana Usychenko and Kateryna Lopatiuk, developed strategic action plans and gained valuable insights into the complex relationship between urban development and heritage management. Here are some key takeaways from our team:

In the context of the full-scale invasion, the participation of Ukrainian cities in EU initiatives and programs, such as the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy and URBACT, is not only an opportunity but also an important step towards recovery and sustainable development. Access to these programs allows us to implement European practices in energy efficiency and good governance, which is critical to improving the quality of life in our communities. Having the opportunity to be heard by experts and join European initiatives is a chance for sustainable development and rebuilding of Ukrainian cities based on modern, environmentally friendly solutions.

Depopulation is a major territorial challenge of the #DanubeRegion that demands a comprehensive long-term policy response, and it is challenging for rural local communities to effectively approach the issue while struggling with limited governance capacities.   The objective of the recently approved Interreg Danube Region Programme #RurALL project is to develop a governance model on addressing depopulation in rural areas by improving the planning, management, and decision-making/collaborative capacities of rural communities in exploiting the potential of deteriorating dwellings.   The project consortium joins 14 partners and 7 associated strategic partners that are inspired by the New European Bauhaus that promotes an integrated approach and consequently involvement of different types of stakeholders/experts.   Looking forward to the #RurALL journey…   #RurALL #Depopulation #DanubeRegion #NewEuropeanBauhaus

Excited to share one out of 12 teams to participate in the capacity-building program. “Planning policy and zoning regulations within UNESCO heritage in Chernivtsi”. Team: Svitlana Biriuk, Anastasia Shevchenko, Laterina Korobko. Project goal is to create boundaries and regulations for land use within Chernivtsi’s central historical area and buffer zone of the UNESCO site, intending to preserve cultural heritage, integrate it into urban life, and foster sustainable development. It involves studying international practices, assessing existing cultural heritage, analyzing current development, and formulating zoning and development parameters, supported by methods such as field surveys and comparative analysis, ultimately aiming to create a comprehensive geoinformation database for effective management. These days #Yerevan is witnessing a significant and concerning trend: mass tree cutting across the city. This is not only alarming but puzzling, especially in the silence not only from state institutions - @Ministry of Environment of Armenia #MoE but also from major environmental organizations, such as Armenia Tree Project, My Forest Armenia, etc. These organizations, typically at the forefront of advocating for environmental preservation whose say could shed a light, unfortunately haven’t made any statement/opinion or came together for comprehensive analysis of the situation. What we witnesses in Yerevan will have massive effect on already shrinking green spaces of Yerevan. I am reaching out to my network in #Armenia, particularly those working in the environmental field, to ask for your help. If you are an expert, or know of specialists who have insights, perspectives, or comprehensive analyses on this issue, please come forward. We are currently in need of voices and analysis that can bring light to understand the implications of these actions for the city and people of Yerevan, and ideally, guide us towards a path of sustainability.
