Patients play a crucial role in ensuring diagnostic safety. Patients should actively participate in their diagnostic process by sharing detailed and accurate information about their symptoms, medical history, and any medications they are taking. This helps healthcare providers make more accurate diagnoses. They are also encouraged to ask questions if they do not understand something about their diagnosis or treatment plan. This can help clarify any uncertainties and ensure that they are fully informed about their health status. In light of the celebration of WHO Patient Safety Day, we created a patient educational poster to convey the importance of their active participation in the diagnostic process. #patientsafety #Diagnosticsafety

I shared earlier in the week what fantastic and award winning work our Patient Solutions teams do globally, but what does that really mean? It means providing an at home service to vulnerable patient groups during the pandemic, which enabled them to stay on treatment in the safety of their homes, without increasing their risk by needing to go into hospital (whilst also reducing the burden on our overwhelmed healthcare systems). It means providing in-clinic, at home/in person and remote digital support to patients and carers so that someone who has struggled with their terminal condition is able to regain a 'normal' life again and reclaim their identify as them, rather than their condition. It means giving a physician the confidence and trust to prescribe a novel innovative treatment, as the patient, carer and healthcare professional will get the extra support they need 24/7 to safely and effectively deliver this treatment. It means saving and extending lives. Period. A never event is so-called because it refers to a medical error that should never happen.
