October is Disability Employment Awareness Month, but it often leaves out self-employed disabled individuals. As an autistic, disabled business owner, I know firsthand how working for myself offers the flexibility and accommodations that traditional jobs don’t. Not including self-employment in the conversation isn’t inclusive—it’s exclusionary. It’s time to recognize and support ALL forms of employment for disabled people. hashtag #DEAM #DisabilityEmploymentAwarenessMonth

Yes! Thanks for calling this out! Too few employers are willing to make the real adjustments that make work truly accessible for neurodivergent employees (like getting rid of rigid schedules or paying for a job getting done, instead of how long it takes). Until this changes, self-employment will continue to be one of the most practical ways for neurodivergent individuals to build a work-life-balance.
