🛍Would You Like the KMart, the Country Road or the Gucci?🛍 From my perspective, shortlisting candidates in recruitment is no different from going to the shops. 🛍 There will always be a choice from Budget to Designer. 🛍 There will be a range of price points for very similar looking items, however some will attest to having additional features that possibly enhance performance. 🛍 Cheapest isn't always the worst, nor is expensive going to guarantee to be the best. 🛍 Sometimes you start looking for something and end up with something very different, but just as effective. 🛍 Confused? 🛍 Do you have any tips on how you go about your short-listing, especially in an area such as Administration Recruitment, where receiving 300+ CV's per role advertised is the norm. Would love to hear how you attack it. And go!

I need a new suit! So what did any right-minded recruiter do while shopping for a black linen summer suit (Any recommendations would be much appreciated). I started connecting with Marketers in the UK biggest suit brands but.... Have I found a suit I like.......No Have I now got a brand I have personally blacklisted for life due to my experience reaching out to them - Yes! It was a strange experience, and it activated my petty response. The conversation went like this Me: Hi X, how are you? How is the search going for Y Role? Line Manager: We have an exclusive relationship with an agency Me: Fair enough, which agency: Y, X, Z BLOCKED So AITA for trying to continue the conversation? Personally I think It was completely uncalled for and rather confusing. I'm a recruiter in both digital & the luxury market so there are odds I'll have a role for them in the future but now they won't see me advertising the role and I'm unlikely to go to them given the rudeness I have experienced. There is also another issue, I'm never going to speak well of that brand again due to that personal interaction. Yes the brand didn't do anything wrong but it's the classic guilty by association. Definitely food for thought for when I'm dealing with candidates in the future.

Dress the part and nail that interview! As a retail recruiter, I am frequently asked by my candidates, 'What's the dress code?' for interviews. Dressing successfully for an interview within the retail space goes beyond just fashion – it’s about aligning with the brand! While updating your wardrobe for an interview might not be feasible, there are many savvy ways to interpret a brand's style. Take cues from the company's key looks, seasonal colours, and most recent online collections. Visit the store beforehand to observe how the team present themselves and find out what their customers are wearing too. Effort and initiative speak volumes in that crucial first impression and a store visit can add enormous value in so many ways… Remember, grooming matters and you can reflect the brand's spirit without breaking the bank! I recently conducted an interview session for prospective candidates for a fashion brand. What always amazes me is the unique style of presentation each candidate brings. It's clear that some are driven by money, others by passion, and some see it as just a way to pass time. One of my favorite parts of the process is asking out-of-the-box questions, like "What inspired your outfit today?" How candidates respond helps me quickly gauge their personality and whether it aligns with the talent I'm seeking. Even those who don't advance to the next stage offer valuable insights. Dear LinkedIn recruiters, what's that thing that stands out for you?

“We don’t normally interview people from P&G” is how the Nike VP of Marketing started my onsite interview… “CPG marketers aren’t very innovative or creative but I liked the vision you had in your video submission…” I had only career switched into brand management 12 months prior in 2013 when I came across a Brand Manager opening at Nike, my dream company at the time. To apply, you had to submit a video along with your resume. I thought long and hard about what to share in the video and narrowed it down to: 1) Passion for the industry 2) Where Nike could continue to grow The VP of Marketing liked that I called out the growing trend of companies loosening up their dress codes and that this opened up a new market for Nike. I was flown out to Portland for an hour long panel interview and passed the interviews. Although I ultimately didn’t work for Nike, they were interviewing ahead of roles being available and took too long to get back to me, it was an dream experience to visit Nike’s sports themed campus and shop at the employee store. Back in 2013, creating videos was still a unique thing, not like today’s world of TikToks, so I bet this requirement already screened out the majority of potential candidates and only the truly passionate ones put in the initial effort. Although watching this back 10+ years later is a bit cringeworthy given how much video editing and quality has improved, whether it be a video or a cover letter, make sure to include how you see the industry changing and how you can help the company grow. This shows the value and impact that you can bring. You got this! Just do it! #openforwork #interviewing #jobhunt #tips #resume #marketing #brandmanagement

GHOSTING! A new Formal Fashion🚨 Whereas we live in a world that constantly changes and these changes become trends which are adopted faster than the speed of light ⚡ I still do not understand the latest fashion worn by the recruitment process, which is sympathetic enough to the recruiter’s time and requirement but turns a blind eye for recruits 🤷🏻♀️ It gets frustrating to pass rounds and rounds of interviews displaying unique skill and talent to shine out chances, but in return there is ‘no answer’ or sometimes (if luck favors🤞🏻) a standard drafted mail or rejection without any constructive feedback 😵💫 This fashion might have evolved in the screaming need of ‘saving time’⏳ but I believe that they are paying a large price for this luxury 💰 Often than not it costs fresh talents, experienced minds, loss of trust, and I am just trying to name a few‼️ This FORMAL FASHION needs to be abandoned🚫 Changes that really is the requirement of present are: 1. Constructive feedback 📝 2. Proper status and timeframe of the hiring process🫡 3. Fair compensation of talent ⭐ DO NOT GHOST the candidates, it’s a fast fashion trend which won’t lead to anything good📉😓
