"Our attitudes and perspectives about our profession do matter. Patients and staff can tell when we enjoy and appreciate what we do versus when we don't." #optometrists, please read Chris Wroten's excellent reflection article detailing all that #optometry has to be proud of I agree that there are plenty of challenges ahead in our profession, but also plenty of ongoing opportunities. The Canadian Association of Optometrists is dedicated to advancing the field of optometry and ensuring optimal vision care for all Canadians. With this commitment in mind, we have meticulously developed a new position statement on Vision Therapy to offer evidence-based insights and recommendations. Vision Therapy, a specialized therapy aimed at enhancing visual function and performance, has been the subject of extensive discussion and debate within the optometry community. Grounded in neuroplasticity, a well-established and continually evolving field of scientific research and clinical practice, Vision Therapy holds significant promise. It can effectively address a wide array of symptoms, including headaches, double vision, blurry vision, difficulty focusing when reading, and challenges with object tracking. Vision Therapy facilitates the acquisition, reacquisition, and reinforcement of specific visual skills, such as precision in eye movements, control of focus, and coordination between the eyes. By leveraging these techniques, individuals can experience significant improvements in visual acuity and comfort, ultimately enhancing their overall quality of life. 🌟 Week of Sight: How Does Optometry Improve the Cost of Care? 👁️ The recent Royal Decree in Belgium has dramatically altered the field of optometry, with profound effects on both practitioners and patients. APOOB spoke to our members to understand how this new legislation is affecting their practice, patients, and overall eye care. 💵 In our conversation with Charles Bruninx, a third-generation optometrist, a striking concern emerged: the escalating costs of eye care. “As patients are now referred to ophthalmologists for new eyeglass prescriptions, the cost of their eye exams can grow significantly.” In our upcoming interview, we delve into how these regulatory changes are leading to longer wait times, regional disparities, and increased financial burdens for patients. Charles shares his personal experiences with these challenges and offers insights into potential improvements for patient care. 📆 Discover a better vision for the future of Belgian eye care in our upcoming article! #apoob #optometry #optometrist #eyecare #weekofsight

This interesting article from the AOP explores how terminology shapes public perception. Highlighting the underlying duality of the profession - balancing the clinical and commercial pressures on businesses. Clients would have asked us for an OO in 2010, then Optometrists. Is the more prevalent Optom term to casual? What do you like to be called? https://lnkd.in/e8brW3Jq

In the article, the WCO president talks of “...the need to address the large burden of preventable vision impairment.” This is something that we are passionate about at IBISVISION . We are working with clinicians across health services, optical chains, and commerce providers to help make remote testing and refraction available when and where it is needed. Looking forward to #WorldOptometryWeek
Mark your calendars - it's #WorldOptometryWeek this March and this year's theme has just been revealed! The World Council Of Optometry have said that this year it will be highlighting equitable access to eyecare and the "need to address the large burden of preventable vision impairment." We're looking forward to seeing a focus placed on the issues arising from limited access to eye care as well as what this campaign can do to highlight effective solutions. IbisVision's own technology strives to make eyecare accessible and affordable for everyone, so we will be one of the first to join the industry in engaging with this campaign next month. Read more about what's coming up in #WorldOptometryWeek in Optometry Today below and join us in raising more awareness on March 17th-23rd. https://lnkd.in/eVHCphG8
