Question: "Why do some universities offer elective courses called SOPHIA where completing them doesn't affect a student's GPA, only their overall credits? This seems unfair and like a money-making scheme for schools that are supposed to be nonprofit. The U.S. Department of Education may need to investigate #colleges like Capella University et al who engage in such practices. #collegesanduniversities should rethink their policies on grading for courses that require the same effort and learning, regardless of whether they're paid or free." https://lnkd.in/eJDMaYUq

4 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝗪𝗲 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗧𝗼 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝗲 Is education policy something I should consider for my children? Or should I rely on savings and my income to fund their education? When choosing to purchase a cover or not, it’s good to note these 4 things; 1️⃣ 𝗪𝗲’𝘃𝗲 𝗚𝗼𝘁 𝗡𝗼 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 When most of us were studying, our parents had tracts of land, and livestock, among other properties. During our university days, it was common for parents to divide and sell part of their land to settle school fees. Unfortunately, things have changed today and most of us don’t have those large tracts of land. As a result, we do not have a backup plan for our children’s school fees if we lose our income. 2️⃣ 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗻𝘆𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 Are you familiar with the fundraisers that villagers organized when a child received a university admission letter? If yes, then you know villagers were excited about such events and were willing to support one of their own to acquire an education. Unfortunately, things don’t work the same nowadays. Very few people turn up and the amount raised is usually less than the tuition fee. 3️⃣ 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗛𝗮𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 The tuition fee amounts keep increasing by the day. A simple comparison of the university education between today and 2018 will shock you. If you research the same you will learn that the tuition fee has increased by 2 or more times the initial amount. Without prior planning, it’s easy for your child to lose a learning opportunity. Furthermore, education keeps getting more and more expensive! 4️⃣ 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝗜𝘀 𝗨𝗻𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 Death is not a respecter of persons it comes anytime and leaves some without parents. As a parent with children relying on you to educate them, you should build a plan that will ensure your children complete their education whether you’re present or not. Unlike the generation before us, we have all odds against us! As a result, we must embrace robust measures to see our children through their education goals. Are you ready to secure your children’s education?

📚💸📉Transparency in tuition pricing is crucial for maintaining trust and integrity in higher education. Don't hurt your students; don't hurt your institution's reputation. 🔍🎓 "NACUBO’s latest study, based on a sample of 325 private nonprofit colleges, shows at least a decade of steadily climbing tuition discounts... Phillip Levine, a nonresident senior fellow at The Brookings Institution, argued recently that college sticker prices are “an increasingly poor indicator” of the prices students actually pay." https://lnkd.in/esFng8df #HigherEducation #TuitionTransparency #StudentSuccess #EducationFinance #CollegeCosts #EdTech #Integrity #HigherEd #HigherEdNews #EducationMatters

Having a framework to develop oracy in the curriculum enables you to truly focus on developing oracy (rather than just mapping opportunities when students get to do a activity). A whole school approach to the skills around oracy means that no matter where a students' passions lie they have equal opportunities to develop great communication skills. It took me too long to find my own voice and maybe it did you too? Or maybe you were championed and empowered. Every one deserves the skills of great communication.
In this article, researchers with funding from the Education Endowment Foundation and working with the London-based free school School 21, created an oracy assessment toolkit for 11-12 years olds. Read here: https://lnkd.in/eTmGg57k #Listening #EducationResearch

📚 EDUCATION ALERT! 📚 It is the goal of the MCCC Foundation to "close the gap" in available funds for students and make education affordable and accessible for everyone! The "gap" for a college student is defined as the amount of money a student still needs to fund their direct and indirect educational expenses after they have exhausted all personal funds, scholarships, and financial aid. This amount can sometimes mean the difference between deferring their education or graduating. The most immediate challenges students face involve tuition assistance, quality of life issues including food and housing insecurity, transportation, technology needs, and additional expenses associated with certain programs Studies have shown that students who defer their education often never return to complete their degrees, leading to lifelong economic ramifications. This is why we budget almost $1 million annually, so all of our students can achieve their educational and career goals without any financial hurdles. Every donation, no matter the amount, is needed and appreciated! www.mccc.edu/give #SupportEducation #CloseTheGap #MCCC #EveryDonationCounts #AffordableEducation 💸🎓👩🎓👨🎓

Ensuring equal opportunity in education requires a comparative examination of public and private schools in the U.S., where access to quality education shapes future opportunities and outcomes for students. While both sectors strive to provide academic excellence, they often differ in funding, resources, and educational approaches. Public schools, funded by government sources, aim to serve all students regardless of socioeconomic status, offering a diverse range of programs and support services. In contrast, private schools, funded through tuition and donations, may offer specialized curricula and smaller class sizes but may not be accessible to all due to financial constraints. By understanding the strengths and limitations of each sector, policymakers and educators can work towards bridging the gap in educational equity, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive and succeed, regardless of their background or circumstances. 🏫📚 . . . . . I'm thrilled to see in this recent report by the College Board the real cost of tuition trending downward, even as those sticker prices keep climbing! 📈 Despite appearances, it turns out that after grants and institutional aid, the net price many students actually pay for college has decreased over the years, according to recent College Board data. In fact, freshman year at private, non-profit institutions cost, on average, $16,510 for the 2024-25 academic year, down from $19,330 in 2006-07 (adjusted for inflation to 2024 dollars). This shift helps make higher education a little more accessible and, perhaps, a bit more financially achievable for future students. It’s an interesting trend that reminds us to dig deeper than the sticker price and focus on the bigger picture. #collegeadmissions #CollegeBoard #Tuition #FinancialAid
