The first hatching of Darwin's rhea chicks of 2024! These little chicks, known as charitos in Spanish, have a BIG mission: they will travel from the Reserva Quimán (Los Lagos region) to Patagonia National Park (Aysén region) to strengthen the species population, enriching the genetic variety and, thus, avoiding their local extinction. Today begins a new cycle of rewilding hope! Through the Darwin’s Rhea Conservation Program, we are working to strengthen their populations in Patagonia NP with the collaboration of Reserva Quimpan, Estancia Baño Nuevo, Carabineros de Chile, Conaf, and Sag.
