🚀 🚀 🚀 A busy week full of interviews for C006 at Remotecoders. We received over 500 applications, with 300 candidates successfully moving through the initial virtual assessment phase. A select group has now been invited to participate in the interviews, and from there, the outstanding individuals will advance to a bootcamp phase with EPFL Extension School and secure internships with our teams. But these aren’t just numbers — they represent the hopes and dreams of talented, disadvantaged individuals, including women, migrants, and local jobless youth fighting to launch their careers in IT.💼 At Remotecoders, we empower vulnerable talents to break into the tech industry, while enabling IT companies across Switzerland, the EU, and beyond to access skilled talent and create real impact.🌍💡 Want to join this meaningful journey? Have a company? Work in a team and still need more resources? Convince your team to either build, grow, extend. They can hire a team that consist of 1 senior carefully recruited together with our partner + 2 interns cost free for you who are from vulnerable groups. Leveraging my transferrable skills helped me break into tech as a new grad and now, I help students and recent grads do the same! As someone with a Maternal and Child Health degree who pivoted into tech at TikTok, Tinder, Bumble Inc., and WayUp, I shared my advice and resources for early career candidates looking to do the same HERE: https://lnkd.in/gcdY2HZ2 Working in employer branding and the marketing side of early career recruiting is a career path that I created through focusing on what makes me unique and utilizing all of the lessons and knowledge I’ve gained throughout the years in previous roles! My background in content creation, marketing, PR, and communications all played a major role in positioning myself to work in the non-technical side of tech. Enjoy this day in the life video of my time at Baddies in Tech’s Baddie Con 2024! 🤭 #internships #earlycareer #linkedinvideos #breakintotech #womenintech #earlycareerrecruiting #dayinmylife

“Men apply for a job when they meet only 60% of the qualifications, but women apply only if they meet 100%.” This quote from a senior executive at Hewlett Packard is one that really stuck with me and has come up quite frequently when people have been asking me questions about internship and program applications. While clearly addressing important issues related to gender, confidence, and self-perception, the quote also speaks to the importance of putting yourself out there as much as possible by applying to roles early and frequently. This is especially true for those who are traditionally underrepresented in tech. The field of computer science is a polarizing one, with some boasting wild successes and others sharing the apparent hopelessness of the job market. It's easy to feel underprepared or underqualified for some of these roles, but if you're not willing to take a chance on yourself, how do you expect others to take a chance on you? Now obviously, there are many cases where the number of applications doesn't seem to be the main issue (as seen by countless Reddit threads on r/csmajors), but you'd be surprised to see how many qualified candidates are too scared to apply. With that said, I can't leave you guys hanging with just some open ended advice, so here are some more resources for finding applications: (All links posted in comments!) - Legasse Remon just dropped a new GitHub repo with tons of computer science resources ranging from internship applications to mentorship to how to get involved with research. You can find pretty much any CS career related resource on here. - RippleMatch is a great website that only matches you with job opportunities and programs that fit your skillset, so there's less of a chance to get ghosted. I've only been using it for a few months, but I have gotten an interview for almost every match I ended up applying to. - Aditi Sonawane shared a resource for Product Manager internships and fulltime roles with me. It looks like a great website to find those kinds of roles. As always, please drop any other resources in the comments so we can keep helping one another out! Thank you for the continued support, and good luck with hiring season, everyone! #growth #internships #freesources

Facing the Tech Job Hunt as a Tier 3 College Student. As a tech student from a tier 3 college, I’ve encountered my fair share of challenges in securing a job in the tech field. The competition is fierce, and it often feels like opportunities are skewed toward those from more prominent institutions. However, I’m determined not to let this discourage me! Here’s what I’m learning along the way: Emphasizing Skills Over Labels:- I’m focusing on building practical skills through projects, internships, and online courses. My abilities matter more than my college’s name! Networking Matters:- I’ve started reaching out to professionals in the industry, joining tech communities, and attending workshops. Building relationships can lead to unexpected opportunities. Perseverance is Key:- Rejections can be tough, but each one is a stepping stone. Staying resilient and continuously improving my skills is my mantra. Sharing My Journey:- I believe in the power of storytelling. By sharing my projects and experiences, I hope to connect with others who can relate and inspire those who may be in similar situations. If you’re also navigating this journey, I’d love to connect and share insights. Together, we can overcome these challenges and find our place in the tech world! #TechStudent #JobSearch #Networking #Resilience #ContinuousLearning

🚀 The tech jobs landscape is shifting fast for juniors, and it’s not (yet) good news. We’ve crunched the numbers on our first 100 intern and grad placements, and 2024 looks very different from 2023. Curious to know what's changing? 👩💻 More candidates, more engagement, more applications, and incredible volunteer support ❌ But... fewer employers, fewer roles, and a significant drop in DEI hiring 🎯 If you’re a part of New Zealand’s tech community, this is a must-read to understand the trends shaping the future of our industry! 👉 Check out our latest blog post for the full insights: https://lnkd.in/givYMxRV #techjobs #hiringtrends #diversityintech #internships #futuretalent

With May on the horizon, the spring semester is coming to an end for many, which means the internship recruitment season is also starting to wrap up. To those who accepted an internship offer that they're proud of, congratulations! Your hard work, dedication, and perseverance paid off! To those who didn't, don't be too hard on yourself. You tried your absolute best, put in 200% your best, and had the courage to push through to the very end. As someone passionate about helping others reach their goals in tech and has mentored some students during their journeys, I frequently get asked this question: "Is there anything I could be doing wrong?" My short answer: NO! If I were to be honest, in an industry like tech with so much talent, at the end when it comes to a pool of several qualified candidates, it's honestly a numbers game. And, there may be many factors out of our control, such as the number of returning interns, available slots, budget cuts, etc. In the end, you are in charge of what you can control: ✅ Routinely updating your resume ✅ Routinely practicing technical interview questions ✅ Routinely doing mock interviews ✅ Networking ✅ Building your online presence through personal banding ✅ Leveraging the career services offered at your school This is not the end, but only the start to a fulfilling career! During this recruitment season, you learned a plethora of new skills that will come in handy when it comes to career development, such as networking, mentorship, learning how to interview, write a resume, etc. Take this opportunity to reflect back and write down what you learned during this recruitment season. What do you think you did well on, improve on? How will you use this experience to prepare for the next recruitment season? Don't take not finding a summer internship as a failure, but rather as a sign of growth! Regardless, you learned a lot on the way and are one step closer to achieving your career goals. To all of my CS and tech buddies out there, I'M ROOTING FOR YOU ALL! In the meantime, feel free to follow AND connect with me on LinkedIn to learn more about my tech journey and my tips for excelling in early career development! ~Kevin

“Mom, i’m a Georgia Institute of Technology 2025 Focus Scholar” was a text I sent this morning 😭 [story background + recruiting playbook] Focus 2025 is one of the programs i’ve been looking forward to the past couple months. When I hit “submit,” I honestly went back to homework as if it was nothing, so I wouldn’t get my hopes up for an extremely competitive program with a selective admissions process. But today, I’m so glad I took that bet on myself.🐝 With this program, i’m headed to Atlanta this January to explore graduate school, research labs, and connect with faculty driving innovation in technology 💛🖤🌃🚀 This wouldn’t have been possible without years of investing in my professional development, starting at 15 with Student Council! (i feel old) 😂Kelley Cusmano unknowingly shaped my work ethic #besthighschoolteacherever Those early leadership skills shaped my drive to give my all in everything I do. I applied to internships with the mindset of wanting to learn and try new things. Here’s a recruiting playbook I live by! Step 1: Finding Roles: ✅ Jobright.ai Internship List at https://lnkd.in/g9e99UGE ✅ Using above repo, you can directly apply to 61k internships opportunities in the US with hourly updates Step 2: Practicing for Interviews: ✅ Leverage Tech: Use voice-to-text tools to transcribe your answers, then paste them into ChatGPT to refine and improve. ✅ Mock Practice: Big things are coming soon with Product Haven (a community that changed recruiting for students worldwide) Step 3: Favorite Resources: ✅ Newsletter: iykyk.careers is my go-to! ✅ Creators: Chloe Shih and Avni Barman are sharing the coolest stories through series on all their platforms that i’m keeping up with 👀 The teenage me that didn’t know how to apply to colleges/fafsa/jobs is screaming of joy. 💛🖤 📸: the emails!!!! #GeorgiaTech #GraduateSchool #GATech #Jobrightaipartner #internships #resources #college #tech #newgrad
