For those who know me well it will be no surprise that MAF, an international faith based charity, is one of my favourite NFPs as they fly planes, and bring hope, help and healing to some of the most isolated people on the planet.
I particularly like them as not only do they care for people through their daily activities, but they enable hundreds of other charities and government organisations access to be able to deliver much needed services.
Here at home in Australia, MAF have been serving the communities across East Arnhem Land for more than 50 years where they operate scheduled shuttle, charter, medical patient transport, low acuity medevac, domestic violence evacuation flights, as well as ferrying young people from their remote communities to major centres for school (aka school the bus). Some very practical and essential stuff as well as providing a means for other NFP and government departments to access communities that would otherwise require lengthy, time consuming travel by road, which at certain times of the year is impossible.
Aviation being a highly regulated, capital, and cash flow intensive industry, it's no surprise that the majority of the donations received by MAF are allocated to the delivery of the charity's primary mission; flying planes, rather than infrastructure like staff housing. Although having stood the test of time the charity's housing available for staff and their partners are showing their age and several are in need of significant renos and repairs that are beyond the capacity and budget of the local team to deliver in a timely or cost effective manner.
To address this need, MAF are looking for tradies with the skill and time to volunteer their help to improve the Arnhem Land housing conditions during an upcoming maintenance windows between late August and mid October 2024. With ~ 25 houses spread across this vast area of northern Australia this is likely to be the first of several future trips as funds are raised to undertake these much needed repairs and renos.
If you have a heart for isolated people, and possess trade or trade assistant skills (think builder, carpenter, sparky, plumber, plaster, painter ... any building related skills) I'd encourage you to express your interest in helping out at https://lnkd.in/gKD68SkB
Thank you to the volunteers who have already responded to our call for skilled and/or experienced tradesman to join our team in Arnhem Land for our building maintenance project. 🛠 🔨 ⚒
We still need volunteers to pray, give or go in August-September 2024!
Do you have skills or experience in the trades required? Have a look at the list.
