Do you know how train path requests across borders are coordinated and submitted? 🔗 A designated IT tool, the Path Coordination System (PCS) was developed for this purpose and is currently undergoing an important upgrade. According to the current migration plan the system should be migrated from PCS-EC ("Envelope Concept") to PCS-CB (“Capacity Broker”) in October 2024 supporting the planning of the yearly Timetable 2026. Forum Train Europe is accompanying this development. 🔍 Recently, FTE members tested the first module of the new PCS Capacity Broker. In collaboration with volunteering railway undertakings and infrastructure managers, FTE has organized sessions with power users to test the newly developed first functionalities to ensure that they meet users' requirements. The testing aims to provide feedback in due time to RailNetEurope (RNE), the operator of the PCS. 🗺️ The testing sessions were conducted on two geographical axes, Germany-Switzerland-Italy and Spain-France-Belgium/Germany, to evaluate the new system's capabilities across different regions and various involved stakeholders. In other countries the introduction of a cross-border test is also considered, such as Belgium-Netherlands and Romania-Hungary. 🙌 FTE would like to express sincere gratitude to all the participants following FTE’s invitation and engaging in the testing process: BLS Cargo AG, DB Cargo Schweiz GmbH, DB Cargo, Deutsche Bahn Fernverkehr, Deutsche Bahn InfraGO, Hupac Group, Renfe Mercancías, SBB CFF FFS Infrastruktur, SBB CFF FFS Personenverkehr, Sibelit, Fret SNCF, Trenitalia, Swiss capacity allocation body and the Joint Office of RailNetEurope (RNE) #ConnectingEurope #ForumTrainEurope #Rail #EuropeanRailways #RailTransport #CrossBorder #GreenDeal 🌍🌱

📢 The AERRL, Association of European Rail Rolling Stock Lessors calls for urgent actions in Rail transport 📢 We Akiem, as member of AERRL, promote the Manifesto 2024-2029, this Manifesto calls for a pragmatic, realistic and ambitious deployment of ERTMS. AERRL requires more co-ordination from Europe and an implementation from ETCS Baseline 3.4 release. In addition AERRL asks the emerging FRMCS telecoms standard to be natively backwards-compatible with existing standards to avoid market fragmentation and inefficiencies. AERRL also expect public funding for the procurement of newly built rolling stock to be more strongly or explicitly forbidden. AERRL highlight the importance of focusing public funds on infrastructure improvements and upgrading existing rolling stock with advanced technologies like #ERTMS, #FRMCS, and #DAC. AERRL calls on the EU to constrain manufacturers with new regulatory requirements to guarantee vehicle lifespans of at least 30 years including access to spare parts, product expertise, obsolescence management, access to software source code. We Akiem, as member of AERRL, promote, these measures are essential to enhance European rail transport and achieve the Green Deal objectives 🌱. 🔵 Unlocking rail’s full digital potential for the benefit of passengers and freight transport relies on the fastest possible deployment of rail's key digital enablers. Rail transport game changers include: 👉 #ERTMS, European Rail Traffic Management System, to improve interoperability, capacity, performance and safety. 👉 FRMCS, Future Railway Mobile Communication System, to enable future-proof robust communication performance. 👉 DCM, Digital Capacity Management, to reduce bottlenecks through smart data management, run more trains on the existing infrastructure, better plan their maintenance works, and harmonise interoperable freight and passenger trains. 👉 #DAC, Digital Automatic Coupling, to enable freight capacity increase, reduction in operational time, and integration of rail freight into digital supply chains. A new governance should be designed to coordinate ERTMS, FRMCS and DAC investments and deployment to unlock the full benefits of the digital transition: ✅ Better data exchange, ✅ optimised capacity, ✅ and ultimately more trains on tracks, including cross-border. Incremental were delighted last year to be announced as one of the winners of the First of Kind (FOAK) 2023 competition, which is funded by the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom and managed by Innovate UK for our innovative SPEED submission. The First of a Kind competitions play an important role in helping organisations bring innovative ideas to market and to deliver positive change to the rail industry. Incremental are leading on finding practical solutions to understand how to support the identification of the most problematic delay related speed restrictions on the rail network and this is an area that the Incremental team with our, stakeholders, are passionate about solving. Therefore, in September, we will bring you, SPEED, which stands for Speed Profiling & Enhanced Efficiency Determination and will combine train movement data derived from GPS and TSR/ESR data to provide insights on performance against the timetable and the effect of TSR/ESR's. ✨ Key benefits 🚂 Providing visual and granular data to support the identification of the most problematic delay-related speed restrictions on the rail network. 🛤 Measurable metrics for sub-threshold data and the ability to unpack the contribution of sub-threshold delays (delays under 3 minutes). 🚉 Ability to generate an average time loss trace before and during a given speed restriction to display the impact of a given speed restriction. 🚅 Reduction in frustrating manual process time spent reporting on speed restriction data. Learn more about SPEED, our stakeholders and it's capabilities over the next couple of months and if you want to know more before the, please get in touch at: contact@incrementalsolutions.co.uk Innovate UK #Innovation #RailTechnology #Railspeedrestrictions #

🚆 More digital, flexible, and European: The railway sector notably progresses forward. The #PathCoordinationSystem (#PCS), a central capacity booking system, has seen record numbers. +35% increase compared to 3 years ago, due to substantial efficiency improvements in coordination. Many thanks to the entire #CapacityManagement team that ensured a smooth workflow: Ivona Haban, Nicolas Jasinski, Anna Geczi, Radiul Hasan, Yassir El mazi, and Andras Till, as IT team leader. Learn more about PCS and its record usage on the #RNE Website: https://lnkd.in/dvBSAh3Q This progress is a result of improvements in several key areas: ➡ European: ‘Driving a train through Europe must be as easy as driving a truck.’ This goal was always hampered by national orientation, even though most freight trains are crossing boarders. The new draft of the #CapacityRegulation is a vital step to reaching our sustainable goal. ➡ flexible: Railways are still driven by the annual timetable. While it serves passenger traffic well, it falls short of meeting freight transport demands. The #TimeTableRedesign for Smart Capacity Management now fulfils flexible transport needs. ➡ digital: Rail bookings have become more seamless, benefiting from automation and digitalisation. The #TAF and #TAPTSI messaging standards are being utilised by the various carriers operating on Europe's rail networks. RailNetEurope (RNE) #PCS #CapacityManagement #RNE #RailNetEurope
