In collaboration with #HexagonMI, they developed a #production_cell for #electric_vehicle_gearbox_housings where the measurement process for quality monitoring, including the #automatic_loading and #unloading of the measuring device by a robot, runs fully automatically. The production cell uses a #GLOBAL_S with a part fixture developed by #HexagonMI. The modular I/O Flow Manager system from #HexagonMI controls all interactions between the CMM and the components in the cell. Using #Data_Matrix_Codes (DMC) to identify the different gearbox housings, the respective #PCDMIS part program is called up. This also ensures complete traceability and unique logging of the measurement results for each component. ❗ To continue using the CMM even if the robot fails, an additional manual workflow was programmed with I/O Flow Manager. In this case, the operator can load the component by hand and manually scan the corresponding DMC. Intuitive operator guidance is available for the loading process and the selection of the measuring program. ❗ The production-integrated use of the #GLOBAL_S opens excellent potential for increasing production efficiency. Things about PID PID stands for "Proportional-Integral-Derivative." Proportional Action: The proportional term in PID control provides a control action that is proportional to the current error signal. It responds to the present error. Integral Action: The integral term integrates the error over time, providing a control action based on the accumulated error. It eliminates the steady-state error. Derivative Action: The derivative term provides a control action based on the rate of change of the error signal. It anticipates future behavior of the system. Tuning Parameters: PID controllers require tuning of three parameters: the proportional gain (Kp), the integral gain (Ki), and the derivative gain (Kd). Proper tuning is essential for optimal performance. Stability: PID controllers can maintain stability in systems by adjusting control actions based on the error signal and its history. Setpoint Tracking: PID controllers can track a desired setpoint, adjusting the control output to maintain the system at the desired operating point. Anti-Reset Windup: Anti-reset windup mechanisms are often employed to prevent integral windup, which can occur when the controller output saturates, leading to slow response when the control signal becomes active again. Cascade Control: PID controllers can be used in cascade control setups, where the output of one PID controller is used as the setpoint for another, providing enhanced control performance. Adaptive Control: Some PID controllers incorporate adaptive tuning algorithms to automatically adjust the controller parameters based on the system dynamics, improving performance in varying operating conditions. I am proud that our Manufacturing Technology organization was able to be part of this Northrop Grumman and Scaled Composites team that highlights the incredible power of Digital Transformation combined with new manufacturing approaches. Utilized fully-digital information with the company’s patented Scalable Composite Robotic Additive Manufacturing (SCRAM) capability, which uses an in-situ deposited wash away tool, eliminating all hard tooling and requiring no secondary cures or autoclaves to greatly reduce cost and schedule timelines. The use of Composites Additive Manufacturing structure is believed to be the first use for DoD structural flight applications. Employed Plasma Arc Directed Energy Deposition (PA-DED) Titanium in the structural bracket to carry the loads from the wingtip to the rest of the wing, which is also believed to be the first for structural flight hardware in a defense application.
