Since joining Prosperity 24/7, I've come to realise that there's not much that brings us together like a good Love to Ride challenge. We managed to top our respective leaderboards in the recent May challenge, although Greener Kirkcaldy gave us an excellent run for our money. We got new people involved in the challenge, we saved an estimated 546lb CO2 through cycling instead of driving and as well as cheering on our usual stalwarts, I also discovered which colleagues will come through last thing on a Friday and undertake a round-the-island-cycle for the extra miles... Sure, winning is fun but what's really nice is to see the behaviour changes starting to take root in the segment of our company that aren't die-hard cyclists (and I include myself in that). Last September I noted that I'm a reluctant cyclist but I'm becoming less reluctant and more willing to do that commute by bicycle. I've also noticed our bike store becoming busier and less frequent cyclists populating the Love to Ride feed more often. That's no mean feat. As someone who deals with change while delivering projects, change isn't always easy to embed but I've always been a fan of gamification as motivation in the right settings. And one of those right settings will be Prosperity Day in September, when our colleagues and clients will compete for bragging rights but also for the much better reason of raising money for charity - this year, we're supporting Healing Waves UK and Jersey Hospice Care - two very deserving charities. So, if you want to do your part, why not sign up for or donate to the tenth Prosperity Day? https://lnkd.in/eFAaUGGf #Lovetoride #change #prosperityday #healingwaves #hospice #charity #cycling
It's #WorldBicycleDay! So what better day to tell you that the 10th edition of Prosperity Day is ready to launch! 🚀 So far we've raised £160,000 for charity and this year we want to raise £40,000 for Jersey Hospice Care and Healing Waves UK Our annual charity fundraising event sees corporate rivals go ‘head to head to head’ in a fast paced stationary cycling challenge. Using our brand new Wahoo KICKR bikes to complete a virtual 30 minute race using 3D Race technology, teams of three will compete against each other to gain race day points which are added to their all important fundraising total and will see who tops the podium. 🚴♂️ 🚴♀️ 🚴♂️ Team captains, get your team mates ready and sign up here https://lnkd.in/eCS2ijBA #GreatMindsAlways #ProsperityDay #Clients #Colleagues #Community #Charity #VentYourFury #CorporateRivalry

Yesterday’s office was at YHA Malham in the stunning Yorkshire Dales National Park, where I was celebrating 70 years of National Parks coming into being thanks to John Dower. This beautiful report on BBC Look North last night sums up why we must preserve these spaces for future generations. It’s scary just how many children never get to experience a National Park or any coastal or rural areas because their families are unable to afford the transport to get them there or the money for a school trip. That’s why projects like the Defra funded Generation Green project and fundraising campaigns like YHA’s No Child Left Behind, are so important. They provide funded stays in youth hostels for children who cannot otherwise afford it. These are life changing experiences. I have seen the power of them myself. I met primary school children from Liverpool yesterday who were staying at the youth hostel in Malham. They hadn’t seen sheep in the countryside before. They were absolutely blown away and kept calling them ‘mushrooms’. The memories of that two day Generation Green fully funded activity break are something I am confident will never leave them. My own son came back from his first school residential to YHA Ilam Hall seven years ago in absolute disbelief that he had ‘dinner for breakfast’. It was a fry up!! Something we still laugh about today. Rather than sending Christmas cards this year, consider donating to the YHA (England & Wales) No Child Left Behind appeal. Your money will provide life changing school trips for thousands of children. I’ll be donating. https://lnkd.in/eYTWaust #YHA #charity #nationalparks #AccesstoNature #GenerationGreen #HeritageandFuture

Calling all runners! We’ve always dreamed of people fundraising & running for Calais Light 🏃 and until we became a registered charity last January, it remained a dream. Until now! Working with the charity gifting platform, People’s Fundraising, we have put together a brand new Calais Light Fundraising Hub where you can raise money for a specific convo. Matt has raised a fabulous £560 for Convoy 29 by running a half marathon. It’s super easy to do! Matt simply set up his fundraising page, (they provide lots of useful tips), searched for “Calais Light Convoy 29” when choosing which campaign to support, and off he went. The platform automatically created a specific page and link just for him. He used the personal fundraising link which the platform gave him to share his “fundraiser” with friends, family and colleagues in the run up to the half marathon day. And the great news is, you can do it too! This option will be available for all future convoys on peoplesfundraising.com, so what will you commit to? A half marathon like Matt? A full marathon? A 10k fun run? A 5k walk with pals? Every penny of sponsorship helps us help more people in desperate need, in the UK and Northern France. Convoy No 30, the big one, is in a month Nov 29th-Dec 1! Any challenge will do!! #SafeRoutesNow #HonourRefugees #WeAreAllTheSame #NoHumanIsIllegal #IntegrationNotSegregation #HumanRights #WithRefugees #HelpRefugees #CalaisLight #RefugeesWelcome #SupportRefugees #NotForProfit #Grassroots #VolunteeringMatters #VolunteeringNow

At One Impossible Thing we want to break down barriers that impede people from participating in sport. Redistributing preloved sports shoes to those who struggle to afford them, is our main way of doing this. But we also know that sometimes motivation is a barrier from getting out there and being active. Which is why we're involved in organising the Boxmoor Virtual Marathon! The idea is to run, bike, scoot, walk, swim or wheel your way through the 26 miles/42kms, over a ten week period. In this Olympic year, the virtual marathon starts when the Olympic Flame arrives in France on 8th May. You have until mid July to complete your marathon, so you can have your finishers medal in time for the Olympic Opening Ceremony! It’s a great challenge for families, who can get out together on their bikes or on a walk together. If you do 5kms each week, you’ll have completed your marathon by July, with time to spare! All money raised through sponsorship will ensure we can carry on with all the work we do with schools, homeless charities, refugees groups and school holiday activity camps. Once registered, you can ask families and friends to sponsor you. If you ask 10 people for £10, that’s £100 you’ve raised! Some of you might know I am doing a virtual charity challenge- Land's End to John O'Groats (874 miles) in less than 100 days in honour of my friend, Julie, who died suddenly this day in 2021, just aged 44, leaving behind a husband and two young children (now 15 and 12). I'm raising money to help build a much-needed playpark in John O 'Groats Scotland, in Julie's name. Every bit I raise is leverage for match funding for a pending grant application. I've been in the gym most evenings cycling approximately 20km per day and logging my miles in a virtual challenge app. I've just "made it" to Glasgow, but still have 318 miles to go. I plan to finish the challenge a bit early during Bank Holiday weekend in John O Groat's itself. I was almost embarrassed to post this, I mean, I've seen the Linked In challenges, you impressive lot have done: swimming the channel, running ultra marathons, climbing Kilimanjaro, etc. But, for me, 20k per day is just what I can manage as a middle-aged business owner with three children. I am proud of my achievement: I'm almost clocking 15 miles per hour which is a good pace, according to Google :) Whether we've worked together, met IRL or virtually, or you just are linked to me professionally, it would mean a lot if you would consider donating the cost of a posh coffee or whatever you can manage. We have strength in numbers. Live the Day! https://lnkd.in/eDK-KsWD
Help raise £1748 to help fund a new playground, the John O Groat's Playpark in memory of my dear friend, Julie Mc Gee nee Gates.
