Let us draw your attention to a recent publication on 𝗨𝗦𝗣 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 by the University of Applied Sciences Aschaffenburg, featuring the 𝗫𝗔𝗥𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗢𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗘𝘁𝗮𝟰𝟱𝟬 𝗨𝗹𝘁𝗿𝗮. This research demonstrates the capabilities of our technology in monitoring micro-layer ablation on semiconductor components. Here are some key points: - Ultra-short-pulsed laser ablation of thin multilayer materials can be monitored using XARION’s Eta450 Ultra Optical Microphone. - Monitoring the material transition between polymer and copper during laser ablation is facilitated by observing a broad acoustic frequency spectrum between 100 kHz and 2 MHz in air, coupled with detecting a sudden change in acoustic energy. - A direct correlation was found between increased detected acoustic energy and a higher ablation rate.   We extend our appreciation to the team at TH Aschaffenburg University of Applied Sciences for their remarkable research, and we're honored to contribute to the advancement of real-time laser processing quality control. Speaker Spotlight 🌟 David Harame, PhD, IEEE Fellow - AIM Photonics Theme: PIC Packaging: Securing Optimal Integration and Performance 🎤 AIM Photonics Foundry providing Co-Process and Co-Development to Address Challenges in Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) Packaging Photonic integrated circuits (PICs) are fabricated in CMOS semiconductor fabrication facilities, which allows manufacturers to take advantage of the large installed base of tools and processes. However, traditional electronic packaging is not equipped to handle the inherent challenges associated with packaging advanced photonic devices into functional products. In this presentation we explore some of these challenges, such as sub-micron alignment tolerances, sensitivity to temperature variations, optical losses, and a lack of established standards, especially as they relate to the design and manufacture of optical coupling structures. At AIM Photonics, we have learned that the best results are obtained when the PIC manufacturing and packaging processes are co-designed to better achieve low-loss coupling, particularly between photonic integrated circuits and other elements in the system. This often requires structural and process changes in the bae PIC processes to achieve the best results. His talk, titled "Ultrafast dynamics of 2D semiconductors and their heterostructures," was held at Utrecht University in February. In his talk, Giulio Cerullo reviewed recent studies on the ultrafast non-equilibrium optical response of TMDs and their heterostructures. Key points included monitoring the ultrafast onset of exciton formation in TMDs using ultrafast transient absorption (TA) spectroscopy, time-resolving intravalley spin-flip processes through helicity resolved TA spectroscopy, measuring ultrafast interlayer hole transfer and interlayer exciton formation in heterostructures of TMDs, and utilizing two-dimensional electronic spectroscopy to analyse interlayer electron and hole transfer processes. Host: Zeila Zanolli Abstract: Layered materials, consisting of crystalline sheets with strong in-plane covalent bonds and weak van der Waals out-of-plane interactions, exhibit unique physico-chemical properties when exfoliated to single layers, known as two-dimensional (2D) materials. These materials, including semiconducting transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), demonstrate strong light-matter interaction and intense nonlinear optical responses, enabling novel applications in optoelectronics and photonics. Moreover, stacking 2D materials into heterostructures (HS) offers vast opportunities to design new materials with tailored applications. 🚀Exciting News in Strain Engineering!🚀 Researchers at the 𝐈𝐃𝟎𝟏 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞, in collaboration with #NelumboDigital, have developed a groundbreaking tool that expands rigid materials like #semiconductors to their elastic limits. 🆕This opens new possibilities for exploring strain-induced properties! This new device, the "𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐨𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐞", uses principles similar to a hydraulic press, leveraging elastomers to impose extreme biaxial strain on materials. Validated at ID01 with in-situ X-ray #diffraction and Raman #spectroscopy, it successfully tuned biaxial elastic strain in silicon membranes up to 2.1%. On 26 October we are presenting at the 20th International Conference on Precision Engineering (ICPE2024), Sendai, Japan: https://lnkd.in/e2UByA_P. Davi Brasil, Steffen Hesse, Michael Katzschmann, Ludwig Herzog, Thomas Fröhlich, and Thomas Kissinger from IMMS and Technische Universität Ilmenau give an insight into their “Investigation of distance measurement reproducibility for a long-range nanopositioning machine combined with a laser focus sensor”.   #Highprecision dimensional processes in modern #manufacturing and #metrology demand positioning systems that offer sub-10 nm performance. Here, the authors present the analysis of a long-range #nanopositioning system designed to reach results close to this requirement. The system operates within a volume of Ø200 mm x 25 mm and implements 6-DOF positioning control based on direct magnetic drives, differential laser interferometers and an autocollimator.   Additionally, it integrates a laser focus sensor (LFS), thereby making it suitable for a wide range of applications. Experimental evaluations showed remarkable reproducibility results in long-range distance measurements, with standard deviation values below 15 nm over a range of 155 mm. These experiments involved the measurement of positions on a cross grid artifact by unconventional use of the LFS and applying corrections for environmental conditions and sample temperature variation. The results of the analysis highlight the suitability of the stage architecture for precise positioning tasks in a variety of industrial and scientific environments.   At IMMS we are not only pushing the limits of what is technically feasible but also working on the transfer of the latest #research results to industry.
