📨 The third IB-Green newsletter is out! This edition focuses on #blueinfrastructure. Blue infrastructure is a network of water bodies or water management systems – can be natural bodies of water (rivers, lakes or ponds), but also drainage systems or canals. In business parks, which are typically highly sealed areas, blue infrastructure is important to reduce the risk of flooding or overflowing of sewerage systems especially after heavy rainfall. 🌧️ ⭐ Some highlights you can find in the newest newsletter include: - business parks Hemrik (municipality of Gemeente Leeuwarden) and Seclin (Métropole Européenne de Lille (MEL)) where blue infrastructure is being implemented, e.g. a bioswale in Leeuwarden - progress from #IBGreen project partners, for example in the municipality of Gemeente Arnhem, in the Gelderse Poort business park, the first companies are engaging with a consultancy on greening/adaptation or Wissenschaftsladen (WILA) Bonn e. Germ of Life is part of the 56 projects approved by Interreg Euro-MED Programme in the 2nd call for proposal thematic projects. 💪 They are classified into three types: 8 study projects (which each have an average budget of 599,690 euros), 41 testing projects (for each the average budget amounts to 2,606,255 euros) and 7 transfer projects (which have a average budget of 996,385 euros). 🌧️ Here comes the rainy season! For many utilities and municipalities, #inflow and #infiltration (I&I) can account for 20-50% of the annual sewer flow. During heavy rain or snowmelt, that number can soar even higher, creating significant cost and operational challenges. We've been working closely with Håbo kommun (Håbo municipality) in Sweden to trial a digital solution that reduces I&I costs in wastewater management.
