How Getting Food Poisoning from a Popular Fast Food Burger Joint Taught Me About System Security! Last week, a popular fast food burger joint betrayed me. One seemingly harmless burger later, and I was in bed battling E. coli, food poisoning, and constant sprints to the toilet that rivaled a marathon. But, like any good IT professional, I found the parallels to system security in my gastrointestinal chaos. - Unexpected vulnerabilities: Just like that burger blindsided me, security flaws can pop up when you least expect it. Both leave you running—one to the toilet, the other to patch your servers. - Detection matters: Early detection is crucial—whether it’s noticing the first stomach rumble or spotting a system breach, the faster you react, the less messy things get. - Recovery plans: My recovery involved electrolytes, regret, and lots of bathroom breaks. Your systems? Hopefully, a solid backup strategy and fewer trips to 'emergency mode.' At the end of the day, both scenarios teach the same lesson: Always be prepared for the worst—whether it’s a crash or a mad dash. 🍔💻🚽 #ITLife #SystemSecurity #FastFoodFail #AlwaysBackup

Article written by exida's Patrick O'Brien published on the Food Engineering web site. The threats facing food processing facilities are already here, and there is no longer any time to delay implementing minimum protections for these sites. Cyberattacks pose a major threat to the reliability and safety of food supply in the U.S. and around the world. The sources of cybersecurity threats for food processing facilities continue to increase, ranging from criminal organizations, nation states (state-sponsored hacking groups), hacktivist groups (crowdsourced hacking for a variety of different “causes”) and disgruntled insiders. Attacks from these groups can potentially lead to significant supply disruptions and even food safety issues. https://lnkd.in/eNQbCFFE

I just seen an alert; and as such, I never let a tragedy go to waste. Let’s learn something… CR Food Safety Alert: McDonald's Quarter Pounders Linked to E. Coli Outbreak https://lnkd.in/g9DEadm9 Backing up data is a lot like freezing meat for future use. In both cases, you’re storing something to keep it safe and usable later. But if there’s something harmful hiding in your data or your meat, that harm can be preserved too, leading to problems when you eventually “unfreeze” it. For instance, with meat, if it was exposed to an E. coli outbreak before you froze it, that bacteria could be locked in with the meat and potentially make you sick when you thaw and eat it. Similarly, if there’s malware or corrupted files in your data when you back it up, those threats get stored right alongside the data. When you restore that backup, you risk reintroducing malware into your system. Just as you should inspect or verify your meat before freezing it to avoid preserving bacteria, you should also scan and verify data before backing it up. Regular scans for malware or other issues make sure you’re not locking in anything harmful, so when you restore, you’re bringing back only safe and healthy data. #data #custodian #malware #backup

So sorry, but this will make you hungry ... You have never had a sausage until you have had a South African sausage. It is called Boerewors. It is the best sausage you will ever taste, but maybe I am a bit biased. It is a mixture of pork and beef. 60% beef and 40% pork. And you also need some free child labour! Making your own saves a small fortune and you can buy the spice mix from Amazon. Have you ever tried to make your own sausages? If you need the recipe, just ask. #doityourself #food #sausages #fun #SecurityEverywhere PS: When it comes to Cyber Security, please do not do it yourself, let professionals do it please.
