The potential for carbon savings in the automotive sector through vehicle parts reclamation and use is nothing short of immense.
My company, JEL Consulting Ltd, has spent the last few months working with the Vehicle Recyclers’ Association (VRA) on a really exciting report.
One of the most interesting things we found was that… vehicle parts reclamation may already be saving 3 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
But, what’s most exciting is the potential for more widespread and efficient use of reclaimed vehicle parts, which could save up to 20 million tonnes of CO2 emissions each year across Europe.
Sounds great, right?
Except, it’s not as easy as that.
Unfortunately, there are many barriers in the way, including, limited access to vehicle manufacturers' parts data, regulatory hurdles, and the need for stronger enforcement of recycling standards.
If we want to unlock this potential and accelerate the automotive industry's Net Zero transition, we need to work collaboratively across the industry.
The potential for a greener future in automotive parts is here, and understanding the data is the first step.
I’ve written an article talking about all of this in more detail. Follow the link to the article and also the full VRA report - https://lnkd.in/eEQzzFYz
