🏆 Call for nominations: Africa Food Prize 2024 deadline: 17 June 2024 The US $100,000 prize celebrates Africans who are taking control of Africa’s agriculture agenda. It puts a spotlight on bold initiatives and technical innovations that can be replicated across the continent to create a new era of food security and economic opportunity for all Africans. Importance of Prioritising Food Security Policies in South Africa 🇿🇦 Research have shown that, South Africa is one of the main destinations for migrants across Africa. As the immigration rate continues to increase. South African population is expected to rise, increasing the demand for food. Food security problem has a deeper historical roots in developing countries. Therefore, agricultural policies of food production must be given priorities.

Privileged to attend the Africa Fertiliser and Soil Health Summit #AFSH24 Expected outcomes from the Africa Fertiliser and Soil Health summit 2024 at the KICC, Nairobi Kenya. 1 Nairobi Declaration 2. 10-year Action Plan 3. Soil Initiative for Africa (SIA) 4. Mechanism to finance the Action Plan (post-Summit implementation programme ) This is expected to be a game changer in crop productivity in Africa that will help attain food security, enhance agro-industry, alleviate poverty and enhance resilience. 🌍 Highlights from West Africa: June 2024 Practical Action in West Africa has made significant strides this month: 1. Empowering Women in Burkina Faso: The Laaguem Taab La Panga cooperative, with over 500 women shea butter processors, has doubled their income through the REAL program. This has improved their living conditions and supported their families. https://lnkd.in/gkGUfiHK 2. Advancing Early Warning Systems in Senegal: The EWAC project has completed data collection in Kaffrine to integrate complex risks into early warning systems, enhancing food security and climate resilience. https://lnkd.in/grjN2J2h 3.
