It is only important if you do something with it: bring the best possible solutions to clients and make sure you get the best insurer deals in the market. We are really focused on growing the business year-on-year because that means a few things: it makes us investable, whether that is in people or tech platforms. 💡 What is the ‘promise of the future’ that insurers and reinsurers are supposed to guarantee? In the 11th edition of our #AccuracyTalksStraight, economist Pierre-Charles Pradier sheds light on the question using a revealing example: the collapse of the investment fund 777 Partners. This Bermuda-domiciled American fund controlled a number of European football clubs, including Red Star, Genoa, Hertha Berlin and Standard Liege. It was preparing to buy Everton. However, various legal proceedings concerning alleged fraud and repeated questions about the value of the fund's assets took their toll. Mired in growing financial problems, 777 Partners and its reinsurance subsidiary 777 Re fell by the wayside, failing to understand the specific business models of European football clubs and to comply with the regulations in force on the continent. It is a textbook case that invites us to reflect on the limits of practices that ignore certain basic economic and legal rules.
