Stakeholder collaboration, a key discussion point during our panel session on building a sustainable future in construction and infrastructure moving from blueprint to greenprint. ‘We work too much in our own silos, real estate, construction and valuation working alone without discussing what the next 20 years look like.’ Thank you to moderator Warwick Kendrick, MRICS and speakers; Katarzyna Zawodna-Bijoch, Gulnara Roll, Michele Monterosso, David Johnson. Thank you! #BEES2024

Tim Aidan Halter and Stephanie Dalquist just got back from Slush, with their ConTech-related takeaways and lots of salmiakki: ☺️ DAY -1: Human experience matters! Remote control or automated operation of equipment may affect productivity, but it also means an operator gets to have lunch with the crew. 🌊 DAY 0: With CO2 assessments becoming "business as usual" with the reform of Finland's building act, the new focus is on biodiversity, climate change adaptation and the circular economy. Anecdotally, local companies in circular economy for the built environment say business is way up. 🪵DAY 1: Finland is gifted with loads of natural resources for construction, including wood. Carbon-footprint-friendly, right? However, until recently, waste has been burned, and no local recycling centers exist. Until the circular economy reaches Waste wood at scale, a lot of that material is exported for recycling elsewhere. 🔭 DAY 2: Investors ought to be taking more advantage of science-based future foresight, ("prospective" in French). A good foresight framework can identify emerging trends in the operational environment across geography and time. Indeed, Construction Venture is fortunate to be sitting right next to the foresight team of Bouygues Construction, led by Virginie Alonzi Glad to have shared the experience with other Bouygues Group colleagues including Gustavo Boriolo, Julien RIPOCHE, and Diego S. ALEGRE VEGA (EQUANS). Thanks for the takeaways, inspired by Alon Magal (Skyline Cockpit), Teemu Lehtinen (KIRAHub), Christopher Mills (Kiilto Ventures) and Arash Hajikhani (VTT)

#circularadvantage I am seeing some incredible efforts across the globe where organizations are taking transformative steps to significantly contribute towards a global circular advantage. Start ups REFRESH GLOBAL PRIVATE LIMITED and iDrop Project Investments plus businesses such as Envision Racing Formula E, Residential Construction - Icon Structures, Inc. and 14Trees are setting the bar when it comes to creating new opportunities for competitiveness and scalable sustainability solutions. It blows my mind to think about the span of influence that us facilities management, real estate, workplace design and construction partners have on industries all over the world. Where do we / can we / should we play a greater role in our customer's circular business models? Take a look at the Circulars Accelerator programme and check out the waste analysis visuals for each industry. Imagine how much impact and value we truly have as strategic business partners. Are we thinking big enough? What do you think? Further Reading and Source Credit: https://lnkd.in/eybUHUHR

WCEF2024 Attending The Built Environment Series at WCEF2024 Wednesday Accelerator Session has sparked significant insights into the future of our built environment. One key takeaway I’d like to highlight is the imminent shift toward a different landscape from what we currently experience. As we navigate this transition, it’s imperative that we ensure today’s solutions are primed for adaptability in a future constrained by fewer resources, aligning the built environment with planetary boundaries. Embracing and working with a circular economy ethos is a pivotal solution that needs to be developed and introduced across sectors, especially when looking at the future of materials shaping our buildings. Behind the event where Circular Buildings Coalition, a coalition joined by Arup, Metabolic, Circle Economy, World Green Building Council, Ellen MacArthur Foundation and WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development. These partners are collaborating to develop and implement circular economy practices, across various construction sectors. Photo: Constantin Meuniers art showing the industrial revolution of Belgium makes a sharp contrast to today’s fast built build environment. We still want bigger and showy buildings, and with a labour force still "breaking its back". In some sense we haven’t changed a lot since Meunier lived...

Some may know this, but I was invited by Arup and the World Circular Economy Forum WCEF to be a panelist at the Built Environment Accelerator Series Event on the 17th of April. I would love to extend my thanks to all involved. Some may call talking too fast, some may call it passion and excitement but you are welcome to take your moment to listen to experts on stage talking about Business Cases in the Built Environment, where we discuss bridging theory into action and what is working, what isn't and what is needed. Some key outtakes from my involvement in the discussion includes; > Lifespans of retail spaces being about 5 years long as opposed to architectural buildings and the whole process from concept, development, refit and closing requires a different way of embedding circular processes in it. > The availability of alternative materials are still quite out of reach at the scale required and while we are feeling the economical uncertainties, companies are unable to invest or partner with companies for sustainable solutions. > While there are drivers, like the European GreenDeal as an example, these are legislative. Policy makers need to push the agenda and make companies responsible and accountable for their planetary degredation. Let me know if you have any thoughts and comments 🌱😊 #circular #sustainability #retail #design Circular Buildings Toolkit - Business Cases for Building Circular - Stream link:

"Building a Better Future: My Takeaways from the Green Economy & Sustainable Construction Workshop hosted by AIIDEV on Friday,24th May 2024 During the workshop, I realized that the green economy is not just a tag, but a vital shift towards a sustainable future. It's about creating a world where our children can thrive, not just survive. Sustainable construction is the key to unlocking this future. Imagine buildings that produce more energy than they consume, or homes that are built from recycled materials! It's not just a dream; it's a reality that's already happening. But, there are challenges. Architects face the task of balancing creativity with sustainability. However, innovative solutions like carbon management strategies and sustainable building materials can help. Let's talk materials! Did you know that sustainable building materials like bamboo and low-VOC paints can reduce environmental impact by up to 70%? The benefits of sustainable construction are clear: cost savings, improved health, and environmental protection. It's a triple win! But, here's the wake-up call: the construction industry is responsible for 40% of global carbon emissions! If we don't act now, the consequences will be catastrophic. Let's join forces to build a greener, more sustainable future. Let's make conscious choices in our daily lives, support sustainable construction projects, and demand more from our leaders. #AIIDEV #teach4SDGS2024 #GreenEconomy #SustainableConstruction #GreenBuilding #EcoFriendly

Yesterday some of the team at Stellify Developments Ltd participated in another webinar with Supply Chain Sustainability School (UK) centred around COP29: Financing the Transition to a Lower Carbon World Some interesting discussions centred around what we can do to lower our carbon footprint and the costs around this 👣♻️ It did leave some food for thought including Who should bear the burden of the financial implications for sustainable construction and how much of the responsibility should fall on to the contractors. Should this be incentivised and should more sustainability grants be made available for the transition and should this be scored more during tender stage. Are the government doing enough to support sustainability in construction? 🤷🏼♀️ #SustainableConstruction #SustainableEducation #SustainableBuilding #Cop29 #LowerCarbonWorld #FinancingSustainableConstruction
