My feed is full of ex-founders and VC's talking the importance of resilience, but almost no one is talking about HOW to be resilient. So today, I'm sharing the 5 ways I refill my "get back on the horse" energy when the last drop is gone: ⇢ Perspective changes everything. Start by getting up and walking away from your computer. Remember that before this company you were someone, and afterwards you will be, too, no matter what. There is life outside this problem. 🙇🏻♂️ ⇢ Immerse yourself in something totally different that demands your attention. Lately for me this has been doing adult paint bar experiences right in my home courtesy of youtube. Turn your phone on silent. The process is joyful and the product gives me a weird little confidence - a reminder I can do something I didn't think I could. 🎨 ⇢ Talk to your friends. The ones who believe you walk on water. The ones who know you best and you can be completely honest with. Lay it out, let them listen, and give weight to what they say. They are likely to shift your POV in a meaningful way. 👯♀️ ⇢ Laugh hard. Last night I watched Pete Holmes' Netflix special "I am not for everyone," my abs were cramping and I went to bed with a huge smile on my face instead of the usual cycle of anxious thoughts. 🎬 ⇢ Get back to why you're working on this problem. Why is it worth your brainpower and income reduction? Who does it effect? Why do you care? What have you done to bring the idea this far? Write it all down. I want to be vulnerable for a sec For the past two weeks, I’ve been all over the place emotionally. From the moment I realized that we potentially had a copyright issue to 3 days later, deciding to pause all operations, I felt okay. It also happened to be on a Thursday when we realized it, and I had plans on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. This was both nice and inconvenient at the same time. On the one hand, I could escape the thought that we might have to kill our startup, but on the other hand, I could’ve spent that time reflecting and thinking through our problem. Come Sunday, I had a pretty disturbed mind, rushing through thoughts to figure everything out in half the time. When I woke up Monday, it was clear that my gut told me that pausing to buy time to figure out what the right next step was was the best thing to do. Anything else would’ve been a compromise to my integrity and my values. A couple of dark days went by after that, with virtually no constructive ideas or solutions, and then I connected with Kristian on LI, which led to a coffee meeting that led to a strategy to get back in the game. BOOM! Back in the game BABY! Was how I felt for 2 days... Having tried to open doors, start conversations, and move the needle for a week now without any tangible results, I stumbled into a bit of a hole again. The past couple of days, all sense of motivation has evaporated, and today, my girlfriend and I checked in over lunch, and I poured out all my second thoughts, insecurities, and “what-if” scenarios. What if this is not what I’m meant to do? What if the path we’re on is not, in fact, creating the impact I dream about? What if …? What if …? What if …? I was doubting and questioning everything. And then I had to semi-rush out of the house for an interview with Kristian at a startup incubator, to see if we could get a space to work together from. 30 minutes later, having explained what it is we’re doing, and why, I walked out a different man than I walked in. My mindset and energy changed 180 on me. I’m excited. I’m motivated. I’m ready to figure out how the hell to move this needle forward. So why am I sharing this? To be completely honest, I’m not sure. I like to believe that sharing the raw and real journey is important. To others, but also myself. I’m not always the best at doing so when I’m in the low, but that’s something I’m working on. Real vulnerability happens there. When you’re in the midst of it all. But this is the second best. And having a public trace of the fugly process if future Freddy wants to look back in 20 years at how he navigated his first real entrepreneurial venture is probably pretty cool too. 🤷♂️ So a note-to-future-self: Do something that means enough to keep you in the game, even when you’re not motivated—because those days will come. Many fold. Now, present-Freddy will get on with his life and do some actual work. 👋

But what I love most is my vision board. My vision board is packed with images of my dream life. From places I want to visit to the lifestyle I want to have. Looking at it reignites the fire again. 🤯Twenties: The Panic Years - The Entrepreneurial Rollercoaster😱 Being in your twenties feels like a constant tug-of-war between being seen as a kid and expected to act like an adult. It's a rollercoaster of emotions, pressures, and uncertainties. On one hand, you're still seen as this carefree teen by some, incapable of making sound decisions or handling responsibilities. It's like you're stuck in a time warp, unable to shake off the "young and dumb" 🤪 label. When you reach out for help, some people turn a blind eye, acting as if they were never in your shoes. It's a harsh reality check.😔 On the other hand, there's this immense pressure to have it all figured out. The world seems to expect you to magically transform into a fully-fledged adult overnight. And let's not forget the unsolicited advice: "Don't make the same mistakes I did," they say, as if their wisdom is the ultimate life guide.📚 But amidst all the chaos, there are those who genuinely support you. They lift you up, offer guidance, and believe in your potential. 🚀 It's a complex journey, filled with both triumphs and setbacks. We're learning, growing, and figuring it out one day at a time. So let's cut ourselves some slack, celebrate the small wins, and remember that it's okay to not have all the answers yet. Social media adds another layer of complexity to this already challenging phase. It's a constant stream of highlight reels, where everyone seems to be living their best life. It's easy to get caught up in comparing yourself to others, feeling inadequate and falling short. Sometimes, a social media detox is necessary to break free from this endless cycle of comparison. LinkedIn, while a professional platform, can also be a breeding ground for pressure. It's filled with success stories, career milestones, and impressive achievements. You're constantly bombarded with messages that you need to be doing more, achieving more, and climbing the corporate ladder faster. The fear of missing out becomes overwhelming. It feels like everyone else is making millions at 18 while you're struggling to afford a cup of coffee.☕️ Starting a business in your 20s with no investors is a daunting challenge. You rely on the support of family and friends, your network, and an abundance of dreams, hard work, and discipline. Every setback feels like a major setback. Every financial hurdle is a mountain to climb. The weight of responsibility is immense. But the rewards, both personal and professional, can be equally as significant. It's a journey filled with uncertainty, sacrifice, and countless sleepless nights.🌌 But it's also a journey of immense growth, resilience, and the satisfaction of building something from the ground up. People who’ve been following me know I went on a hard reset in Q3 to fast-track my personal-professional growth. I was confident it would— Take my business to new heights, Make me super skilled, Build a killer team, 5X my revenue, And make me “successful.” But what I didn't see coming was— It broke me. Gave me anxiety. Shook my core beliefs. Shattered my confidence. Made me feel like an imposter. Made me question my choices. Yes, it brought a lot of good things too… But here's the truth— 98% of what you see on social media is fake. It's one side of the story—the good side. On LinkedIn, it’s all a fairy tale, People smashing it out of the park, Getting featured, gaining fame. Travelling, making money, Hitting goal after goal, But here’s the kicker— In the last 3 months, I’ve had intimate convos with top entrepreneurs and investors, People dealing in billions & millions, People you think are KILLING it. Ex-CXOs Tech stars, Amazon, Uber, Boeing, VCs, and the masterminds behind some of the biggest innovations. Here’s what they ALL said— We still need help. We still feel dumb (yup), We still feel incompetent, NO one has it all figured out. So, if you're going through a rough patch, When things seem to be falling apart, and nothing’s working out, (Trust me—entrepreneurial life has been no flowers for me either.) But one thing has proven true for me time and again— A. Things either work as per plan. B. Things work out better than the plan. So, chin up, soldier. You’ve got this. P.s. I recently noticed how I’ve stopped sharing the real bits of life and started focusing more on the "work.” But here’s a reminder—not everything you see online is the full picture. Like a phoenix, arising anew and in a whole new era 💁🏻♀️ After the Health-Ade transaction and leaving last March, I felt on top of the world—cloud 9 really. I travelled to amazing places, took art classes, and worked to be the best me inside and out. I was very grateful for what we’ve built, the MOST PROUD mama to our (beverage) baby, and able to experience life in a new way. Not to mention I have 2 young kids and spending intentional time with them has been priceless—living every founder’s dream. But as time progressed…I still have all those amazing feels but something felt empty.  I was a dandelion in the wind rather than a deeply rooted sequoia. I realized I live for the thrill of building; I love winning and seeing those around me do the same. Ultimately, I’m a doer and I missed doing things that had a deeper purpose.  So, I’m popping on here not to announce some big new thing but rather that I’ll be on a journey of discovery in a few different ways.   1.    Finding ways to positively impact those I feel compelled to serve. This includes female founders, the Asian American community and kids, especially young girls. 2.    Buying an unsexy business – this is unchartered territory for me and I think that’s what I love about it. s/o to Helen Guo for inspiring and helping me 3.    Developing a new product close to my heart and roots I’m going to be a lot more open about these endeavors because somewhere out there, someone may find comfort in the struggle and the triumphs too. It’s also a little selfish, putting this out into the ether holds me accountable. What won’t be changing is my approach to having a healthy and blended life to fully live and experience all that I can. Expect more content in true vanessa fashion… a little awkward and eccentric, well-intentioned and optimistic, having fun and definitely not taking myself too seriously. 😚 My current plans may change after a while but at least in the here and now, I’m really looking forward to reconnecting with this amazing community. Ain’t that the truth! A good gut check. “If you look at the people in your circle and they aren’t inspiring you, you’re not in a circle. You’re in a cage.” This may seem edgy or a bit harsh, but I believe the human souls #1 mission in life is perpetual growth towards who you are meant to be. Our circle, our environments, what we’re exposed to consistently have a MASSIVE impact on that growth journey. If we’re not growing, we’re dying. Complacency is the kiss of death. This past weekend I got to spend time with 35 individuals GOING FOR IT. It was Eric Hinman, Influencer Marketing @foundersonly.club retreat, comprised of founders of company, investors and creators. It was a great reminder how inspiring it is to be around other people who have a MISSION in life. They’re going for something. Whether it’s in their health or fitness, whether it’s in business or something else. The human soul, especially the masculine side of all of us needs a mission. Check your circles. Do they inspire you? Be conscious of spending some time with people ahead of you or who inspire you in certain areas, as the law of proximity will help you realize similar results in your life.
