Ridge Planning and Engineering Delivers Innovative Solutions for Hummingbird Hollow Another exciting update from the Ridge Planning & Engineering team! We are providing comprehensive civil engineering design for Hummingbird Hollow, a new Lennar community located at the intersection of Bass Cross Road & Mountville Road in Hogansville, GA. This project presented unique environmental considerations due to the presence of creeks, wetlands, and floodplains on site. The Ridge team meticulously designed the site to prioritize and minimize environmental impacts, ensuring sustainable development while preserving the natural beauty of the area. This included careful grading, drainage, utility, erosion control, and tree protection plans. As the first sewered project in the drainage basin, Hummingbird Hollow required a lift station designed to accommodate future growth in Hogansville. Our team's forward-thinking approach ensures efficient wastewater management for the expanding community. Key Partnerships: - Builder: Lennar Homes - Brokered and pre-development management and coordination by Leigh Ann Green at Pristine Realty - Coordination with: City of Hogansville, Troup County, Georgia Government Department of Transportation, City of LaGrange, and Georgia Environmental Protection Division Ridge Planning & Engineering is proud to contribute to the growth and development of Hogansville with the Hummingbird Hollow project. This development exemplifies our dedication to providing innovative and sustainable engineering solutions while fostering strong community partnerships. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting project! #RidgePE #civilengineering #landdevelopment #environmentaldesign #Hogansville #Georgia #sustainabledevelopment #communitypartnerships #HummingbirdHollow #LennarHomes Mike HaponskiJeff SmithJohn R. Continuing B&J's Civil Lunch & Learn Series, Civil Engineering Director Ed Melo, PE, QSD and engineers Casey Durham, and Carolina De Biase delivered an informative talk on how Low Impact Development (LID) is incorporated into projects with site size constraints like "Casa De La Luz" located in Los Angeles. With a pop of color, "Casa De La Luz" is making waves with its 5-story residential and retail design. With the building footprint occupying almost the entire area within project limits, the challenge lies in embracing required Low Impact Development practices with limited space. In this case – the solution is through an advanced Rainwater Harvesting System nestled under the subterranean parking level, designed to optimize sustainability and efficiency. #civilengineering #lunchandlearnhashtag #professionaldevelopment #structuralengineering #landdevelopment

This week we are taking a look at this residential development project in Clacton-On-Sea, Essex, where our Civil Engineering and Sustainable Drainage Design teams provided full surface water drainage management design services to our client. The client planned to transform a 1.36-hectare plot of previously unused greenfield into 10 private dwellings. The site abutted the main B-Road, with each plot to be accessed via a single shared entrance off this carriageway. As with all residential and commercial developments we had to consider how it might impact local water systems to minimise the risk of surface water flooding. We worked with the client to design a system that would manage surface water discharge, keeping it as close as reasonably possible to the natural rate at any given site. Our team pride ourselves on being able to seamlessly integrate all necessary systems into the overall project design. In this instance, tailored solutions for the roof and roadway run-off detailed a pair of on-site interlinked detention basins, linked via a culverted pipe. The proposed systems not only manage the surface water run-off for the development but also ensure water quality and provide biodiversity on the site. Thanks to @Aldona Zawadzka and Radosław Zawadzki for their work on this project. Yesterday, members of our Civil & Structural engineering team attended the consultation on the proposed Birmingham Local Plan at Cundall, hosted by the British Council for Offices Midlands. There was a good walk through of the draft low carbon policies by the author and how will tackle climate change through the planning process. Nice to see that their policies closely align with our ONE Creative environments (ONE) Carbon Reduction Plan. Interesting to hear challenging technical questions from various consultants in the audience. Very well presented by Maria Dunn and Ellie Hignett from BCC - I look forward to making our comments! #civilengineering #structuralengineering #lowcarbon #carbonreduction

The Art of Red Brick Sewer Inverts In the realm of civil engineering and urban planning, the unsung heroes are often the elements that remain unseen. Today, I want to shine a spotlight on a crucial yet often overlooked component of our wastewater management systems. Red brick sewer inverts. Why red brick? I recently discovered, red brick inverts are not just a nod to traditional construction methods, they are a testament to durability and functionality. The use of red bricks in sewer inverts provides a robust solution to guiding wastewater flow through manholes seamlessly. This method ensures longevity and reliability, even under the constant stress of urban wastewater. The installation of red brick inverts is a craft that requires precision and expertise. Each brick is meticulously placed, creating a smooth channel that facilitates efficient water flow and minimizes blockages. It's a perfect blend of time-honored masonry skills and modern engineering. By investing in quality materials like red brick for our sewer systems, we're taking a step towards more sustainable urban environments. These inverts are not only effective in their function but also contribute to the longevity of the sewer network, reducing the need for frequent repairs and replacements. Let's take a moment to appreciate the hardworking individuals who install these inverts, one manhole at a time. Their dedication ensures that our cities run smoothly, even if it's out of our sight. As we continue to develop and enhance our urban landscapes, let's remember the importance of every component, no matter how small or hidden. The red brick sewer inverts are a prime example of infrastructure done right - efficient, durable, and built to last. #CivilEngineering #UrbanPlanning #Infrastructure #Sustainability
