Linesman (n.) Definition: A legendary creature of the port, known for their uncanny ability to wield mooring lines with the grace of a ballerina and the strength of a sailor on a mission. Often spotted darting about on quays and lurking near mooring dolphins, ready to pounce on any vessel in need of guidance. Characteristics: - Punctuality is their middle name - they arrive before the ship does, as if they have a sixth sense for impending arrivals. - Possesses a magnetic personality that attracts even the most aloof captains and pilots, who find themselves inexplicably drawn to their ever-helpful demeanor. - Has earned a reputation for being unable to utter the word "no" - a tragic flaw that often finds them entangled in a web of endless tasks and favors for the ship's crew. Usage: "Beware the linesman, for once you ask for their help, you may find yourself roped into a dance of endless requests and unbreakable mooring lines. Something to ponder for safety of all at sea. A large trading or passenger vessel takes an equally large amount of time to stop or turn demonstrated well in the video. in confined channels and waters keep clear of large vessels. when offshore use common sense and dont put yourself in such a dangerous close quarters situation!

Reflecting on a past deployed experience that further instilled in me: -Patience -Perseverance -Teamwork -Outside the box logistical problem solving is the following example. While deployed to Africa in 2022, I was the Airfield Operations Flight Commander. Coordinating with my team, host nation partners, we identified non-standard airport markings and lighting. In order to prepare the airfield for ICAO certification, we worked diligently to correct identified mistakes. Another issue was the missing windsock. (previous windsock that was lost to a past sandstorm was ALSO the wrong size according to the countries specifications in line with ICAO regulation. With every step of the paint and markings project, lighting project and windsock acquisition were logistic and technical road bumps. First, manpower and supplies were issues we had to overcome. Patience was key! Getting the lighting and windsock was a race against the clock with my limited time deployed and became a logistics nightmare. Working with base partners that could assist in getting parts quickly became a must! https://lnkd.in/ecDUzHxQ

While the rest of us got to enjoy the fun of the merry-go-rounds in classic #Bergen weather (?) of +23 degrees and sunshine - several offshore #PSVs and #AHTS vessels were moored alongside with #crew after crew conducting routine maintenance, tasks I can and only assume must have been inferior to the joys happening 10-15m from ship's side or the joys of a cold drink of one of the quay side restaurants And although the vessel owners, like DOF and Sea1 Offshore probably much rather would see the vessels working commercially #offshore I think the entire industry recognises the importance of the #teams of seafarers focusing on these key activities that build #safety culture, #maintenance focus and keep these assets in prime condition to serve the offshore #energy markets. #Seafarers 💪🏽

During a rescue operation, I had the honor of being part of the team that assisted a vessel in distress, ensuring the safety of its crew and making sure the boat could safely reach the port⚓️ Being there on the front line highlighted just how essential continuous training and preparation are.
