The Gift That Lives On "WHAT IN THE WORLD can I give to ______ this Christmas?" Sound familiar? Sure, it's probably the most frequently asked question every Yuletide season. In our pocket of society where pampered affluence is rampant, we are often at a loss to know which gift to buy. For some people (especially those who "have everything") the standard type of gift won't cut it. Nothing in the shopping mall catches our fancy. I have a suggestion. It may not seem that expensive or sound very novel, but believe me, it works every time. It's one of those gifts that has great value but no price tag. It can't be lost, nor will it ever be forgotten. No problem with size either. It fits all shapes, any age, and every personality. This ideal gift I suggest you give during the season is yourself. That's right, give some of yourself away. Give an hour of your time to someone who needs you. Give a note of encouragement to someone who is really down. Give a hug of affirmation to someone in your family. Give a visit of mercy to someone who is laid aside. Give a meal you prepared to someone who is sick. Give a word of compassion to someone who is going through a difficult season. Give a deed of kindness to someone who is easily overlooked. Jesus taught: The King will say, "I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!" MATTHEW 25:40 The most meaningful gifts we give this Christmas won't be wrapped in shiny paper with a perfectly tied bow—they'll be wrapped in tender expressions of Christ's mercy and love. Here at Houses for Healing, we are a non profit organization, which builds tiny, yet fully functional, houses for people to stay in where a necessity for short-term medical housing exists. Patients and family members can stay without charge in a place near the hospital where they will be assisted with food and transportation. Consider helping us today https://lnkd.in/eZNHuX8n

One of the most meaningful ways to honor our grandparents on #GrandparentsDay is to help them plan for the future. Ensure we respect their desires and maintain their legacy. Here are a few thoughtful ways we can show support to our grandparents: 𝟭. 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Ask about their wishes for the future. How would they like to be remembered? What family traditions or stories do they want to share? Open and honest conversations are a great way to ensure their values and memories live on. 𝟮. 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀: Discuss their medical care preferences and help them establish healthcare directives. This can alleviate stress during difficult times and ensure their decisions are honored. 𝟯. 𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: Assist them in updating their will or creating a trust to protect their assets and provide for loved ones. Ensuring these documents are current and reflective of their wishes brings peace of mind. 𝟰. 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗰𝘆: Encourage them to share how they want heirlooms, gifts, and personal possessions distributed. This helps avoid future uncertainty and ensures their cherished items are passed down as intended. 𝟱. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁: Be there to listen, support, and help them navigate these important decisions. Show them that their wishes matter and that you’re there to help them every step of the way.

This week is one to give thanks - thanks for family, for our friends, for safe travel, for what we have. At a recent AMFP - Association of Medical Facility Professionals event, Ripple Intent volunteers provided a program focused on celebration, recognition, and gratitude facilitated by Sarah Moser and Val Williams (If you are interested in having Ripple Intent provide a program for your organization, contact us). This program approached the question of how do we thoughtfully and intentionally do all three in our lives? Hopefully we can remember to give thanks more often than one week a year - and in the Ripple Intent way of celebration, recognition, and gratitude. Saying thanks in a meaningful way because of who someone is is a sincere expression of gratitude. Recognizing people for the day in, day out slog of work is more impactful than recognition for any single event. Understanding how those around you prefer to celebrate and leaning into those makes celebrations meaningful. Take time while giving thanks this week to reflect on where and how you celebrate, recognize others, and express gratitude. When you do these three with intention and thoughtfulness, you will truly feel thankful.

Here’s the greatest gift you can ever give to your grandparents: A book about them! Imagine capturing the story of how they met, their early years together, and all the timeless memories that have shaped your family. A true celebration of their lives. Let’s break it down: They raised four amazing children, who went on to bless them with ten grandchildren. Now imagine each child and grandchild writing about their favorite memory—no more than 1,000 words each—of a moment they shared with them. That's 14 chapters filled with love, laughter, and cherished moments. Plus, two more chapters dedicated just to their remarkable journey together. This is more than a framed picture from a family picnic or a family tree with just dates and dashes. This is an emotional tribute, a heartfelt message from each child and grandchild telling them exactly how much they've meant over the years. It’s the story of their legacy, in their family’s own words. This is a gift they will hold close to their hearts for years to come. At Our Legacy Book Series, we specialize in capturing these memories and creating a stunning, personalized keepsake book—a treasure that will live on through generations. When’s your grandparents' next anniversary? Or maybe a family reunion? There’s no better time to start creating this unforgettable gift. Let’s make sure your grandparents receive something truly meaningful. Reach out today and let’s get your book started! Their legacy deserves to be remembered, and you have the power to make it happen.

In the spirit of spreading kindness and gratitude, I am thankful to be nearing a year in at Mayo Clinic. Being in Strategy leadership at Mayo is my dream role for a few reasons: 1) 𝗠𝗮𝘆𝗼'𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁. My own healthcare experiences (including years of dismissive misdiagnosis as my kidney atrophied; this care was not at Mayo) have engendered a deeply-personal passion for patient-centered care. Back in January as I was in the last stage of the recruitment process, my husband and I watched PBS's The Mayo Clinic documentary. As the film discussed Mayo's commitment to our primary value, my husband said "Mayo is a perfect fit for you." It was a compliment I will cherish forever. 2) 𝗠𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘀. I have the honor of working with strategists, systems engineers, clinicians, leaders and partners who are extraordinarily bright and kind. They help me develop and make work more enjoyable. I strive to do the same for them. 3) 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗼𝗿, 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘃𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸. The work is difficult, impactful and different each day. I am energized by the intellectual challenge of solving multifaceted problems and navigating ambiguous opportunities. My colleagues and I are transforming our operations for a more agile and digitally-enabled future, crafting guidelines for responsible data usage in GenAI innovations, supporting our ever-evolving workforce, and transforming clinical services to expand our capacity to cure the most serious and complex medical challenges. We truly get to solve the unsolvable. Happy (belated) Thanksgiving!
Wishing a joyous Thanksgiving to our valued patients, visitors and dedicated staff! Consider the transformative power of spreading kindness and gratitude, which can not only shape your perspective and attitude but also positively influence your overall well-being.
