Introducing the shower at a time that doesn’t make sense to the person living with dementia may confuse them more. 3️⃣They are fearful: The person living with dementia may be hesitant to perform a shower because something about the environment is making them feel unsafe. 4️⃣They’re modest: The person living with dementia may be modest. Performing tasks, like showering, that involve removing clothing in front of someone else, could be embarrassing to them. 5️⃣They’re experiencing short term memory loss: Often times, the person living with dementia will say, “I already took my shower.” Because of memory loss related to dementia, they don’t remember if they actually showered. 6️⃣They’re tired/fatigued: The person living with dementia may be tired and the thought of taking a shower can seem overwhelming and exhausting 7️⃣The task appears too complex: The steps involved in bathing can seem daunting.
