📢 Enhancing Collaboration for Optimal Patient Care: Pharmacy First and General Practice Partnerships For the Pharmacy First service to truly benefit patients, the NHS, and community pharmacies, fostering robust relationships between community pharmacies and local general practices is essential. 🤝 Building Trust Strong local partnerships will empower general practice teams to confidently refer patients to Pharmacy First and other community pharmacy services when appropriate. ⏳ Commitment to Change Achieving lasting changes in referral practices requires time and persistent effort. Embedding referrals from general practice to Pharmacy First will likely need several months or more of sustained work. 🔍 Positive Feedback and Challenges Many LPCs and pharmacy teams have shared encouraging feedback about how these local partnerships are driving a high volume of referrals and patient benefits. However, some pharmacy teams face challenges with low or nonexistent referral rates. 💡 Sustained Effort Needed Drawing from the rollout of GP referrals to the Community Pharmacist Consultation Service, we know that sustained efforts are crucial to establish and maintain referral practices over time. 📚 New and Updated Resources To assist pharmacy owners, their teams, and LPCs in engaging with general practice colleagues, there are new published resources and updated existing ones. Let's work together to strengthen these vital relationships and ensure the success of Pharmacy First for the benefit of all. 🌟 #pharmacyfirst #avicennapharmacy #nhsuk #ukpharmacy

So here's a thought... There are some health care providers out there who are perfectly happy to receive money and respect, but when it comes time to actually take care of a sick person, which is how the money and respect are earned, they don't want to fulfill their end of the social contract. Some of this attitude is a symptom of a bigger problem. Anyone who is in charge of health care professionals, whether as a regulator, a politician, a leader of a corporation or health care facility, should consider it in their own self-interest to enable them to be the best health professionals they can be. If they put them in a position where the professionals compromise patient care, and neglect their duties, because of lack of courage to act or greed, these very same leaders may not find someone competent enough to take care of them as they inevitably get older and sicker, as a direct result of their own poorly thought-out actions. It's a matter of short-term gain for long-term pain! #kindnessmatters
🚨 We've launched a telephone and email #hotline to hear from pharmacy professionals about their experiences with corporate pressures in pharmacy. OCP will use the information it receives to track and look into concerns about corporate pressures that get in the way of pharmacy professionals’ ability to deliver the care they want to provide to their patients, or that negatively affect their personal well-being. QEII Hospital's Pharmacy Department is leading the way with a fresh, purpose-built shelving system that’s transforming how the team works—and how they care for patients. 💊 Director of Pharmacy Natalie Tasker (right) says the upgrades are delivering results where they matter most: medication safety, efficiency, and staff morale. “All the changes we’re implementing may sound small, but they’re cumulative, and often it’s the simple things that work,” she said. By improving stock organisation, adding clear labels and barcodes, and optimizing the new layout, the team has significantly reduced selection errors while future-proofing for PBS dispensing launching in 2025. 🏥⭐ Kudos to the team for advocating for improvements that make a real difference to patients and staff! 👏
