According to Moreau de Saint-Méry, the following quote is attributed to none other than the great King Henry Christophe:
“Henry [First of His Name], by the Grace of God and the Constitutional Law of the State, King of Haiti, Sovereign of Tortuga, Gonâve and other adjacent Islands, Destroyer of Tyranny, Regenerator and Benefactor of the Haitian Nation, Creator of Her Moral, Political and Martial Institutions, First Crowned Monarch of the New World, Defender of the Faith, and Founder of the Royal and Military Order of Saint-Henry.”
Sounds like something from Games of Thrones, doesn’t it?
So next time you hear this fictitious royal bragging about her accomplishments,
“Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen, the First of Her Name, The Unburnt, Queen of Meereen, Queen of the Andals and the Rhoynar and the First Men, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Protector of the Realm, Lady Regent of the Seven Kingdoms, Breaker of Chains, and Mother of Dragons.”
think of our real King Christophe, who actually accomplished a lot for his subjects. Haitians don’t have to pretend. We did world-changing shit! Let’s do it again. We have the blueprints and receipts!
