It was a privilege to host Douglas Hickey, the US Ambassador to Finland, alongside my colleagues at the Consulate General of Finland in New York during his visit here last week! Together with Business Finland North America, we discussed the significant potential of Finland-US partnerships in shaping global change. Here are some insights for Finnish companies: 🌐 NATO is not only a defense contract but a commercial one. Just think about NATO's business accelerator to be established in Otaniemi Espoo and Finland's strengths in dual-use technology. 🌐 Finnish companies must be careful about who they take as investors in the current geopolitical situation, to be able to raise money from US-based investors. 🌐 Finnish quantum companies and food tech startups are gaining momentum right now and have great potential to expand and export to the US. 🌐 There should be even more emphasis on institutional investments in Finland. How can we move startups from the seed phase to Series A and B in Finland without always relying on non-Finnish investors to get them over the "valley of death"? 🌐 There is an abundance of talent and exceptional companies in Finland, yet our challenge is our lack of vocalization. Finnish companies need to amplify their voices to attract the attention of investors abroad. Thank you, U.S. Embassy in Finland, for your collaboration and insights!

My experience with Finnish companies over the last decade is that the tech is not just world class, but world-leading. Finnish companies are punching way above their weight in tech innovation. They are less accomplished at talking about how great they are. Kind of the opposite of what we see here with a lot of US startups...
