Teaching a room full of adult learners who want to help others live their best lives is when I'm at my happiest. I do this work for organizations, schools, and community events. It's legit one of my passions. Recently, I gave a guest lecture for my friend Dr. Damaris Bates, PhD, LCMHCA, NCC's master's level counseling class at UNC. We had a great time, and I have a few takeaways concerning becoming a mental health professional & counselor education. #MentalHealth #Neurodiversity #BAND #Neurodivergent #Teaching #College #Counseling

Over the past few years, mental health issues among adolescents has continued to worsen. A 2021 report by the World Health Organization found that 1 in 7 youth between the ages of 10 - 19 are living with a mental illness across the globe. It is crucial we have conversations about mental health with this community, not just for those who are navigating life with a mental illness - but also for the 6/7 who can be allies in ensuring the needs of their peers are met. Taking steps to normalize the integration of mental health wellness into education based communities for both students and teachers is critical. Swipe through for details on how school leadership can show up for your school community. #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #MentalHealth #YouthMentalHealth #YouthMentalHealthCrisis #SupportTeachers #SupportYouth #SupportEmployees #Resources #DEI #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion #PivotalParadigmProject #PivotalParadigm

Social Skills Groups can be a valuable resource for parents and adolescents alike. By offering a structured environment for social skills development, these programs can help adolescents build self-confidence, improve communication skills, and manage stress and anxiety. 30% of Indiana youth have a mental, emotional, developmental or behavioral problem, which is 5% higher than the national rate. For children who needed support from a mental health provider, 48.7% experienced difficulty in accessing care, and 7.2% of children could not obtain care at all. The assumption is that school counselors could fill a mental health provider gap for youth; however, the student-to-counselor ratio in Indiana is 694 to 1 – a significant capacity issue when the American School Counselor Association recommends a student-to-counselor ratio of 250 to 1. So what can we do now to support our next generation? https://ow.ly/GMam50TIcne #ctsindy #faithactionindy #mentalhealth #youth #housing

Our Rise Above youth summit just completed week two of their three-week summer intensive! This summer, students are completing a certificate in Teen Mental Health First Aid USA with Community Services Group and the Racial Equity Institute with YWCA Lancaster. 17 Lancaster County high school students have immersed themselves into new topics and themes and learned from professionals and local creatives. Students have learned from each other and their Safe Space Coordinators (facilitators of the workshops). We call our facilitators Safe Space Coordinators, because not only are they engaging with the students on topics of mental health, but they are also creating a space that is open for questions, comments, and everything in-between for those that are just starting to learn about mental health. We are grateful to our community partners who have shared their time and expertise to support this program. Staff from Community Services Group, Samaritan Center, Lancaster, YWCA Lancaster, and over 30 local artists have joined us in this summer's Rise Above youth summit! Artists include Evita Colon, Sir Dominique Jordan, Yaz Saldana, Vania Hardy, Wednesday, The Ripple Effect, Valosh Patisserie, Mabel Bachini, Malia Burris, Sam Soliman, and more! These students are wise beyond their years, and they have already inspired us in our mission. We cannot wait to see what they share with us next week during their presentations!
