As more EVs enter the market place, differentiation is going to be increasingly important for OEMs. Historically, the powertrain has been a key element of an OEM's brand DNA. An emerging criticism of EVs is that they can be one dimensional, delivering excellent acceleration through immediate torque, but little else to separate one vehicle from another. We see this as a key area for innovation, enabling OEMs to hone their EV powertrain attributes to align with their brand character, whether that be through tuning NVH (in and out!) or vehicle dynamics through fine motor control. Elaphe Propulsion Technologies Ltd., a technology partner of McLaren Applied, pairing our IPG5 800V SiC inverter with their in-wheel motors, have recently been showcasing the art of the possible.
