PRECAST FOCUS: PRECAST CONCRETE PRODUCTION IN COLD WEATHER - Precast concrete products are typically manufactured in a controlled indoor plant environment. However, large structural products, such as bridge girders, piling, and double tees are often cast outdoors on long-line steel casting beds, exposed to the elements where cold-weather conditions need to be considered. Concrete can be placed safely throughout the winter months in cold climates if certain precautions are taken. Learn more: https://ow.ly/gVc150R2Kkr #precastfocus #howprecastbuilds

Your concrete is taking a beating. While you might not have the use of road salt top-of-mind during the summer, the effects drive the year-round wear and tear of concrete. *Road salt penetrates the porous surface of concrete, leading to internal damage and weakening over time. *The freeze-thaw cycle, exacerbated by salt, can cause concrete to crack, reducing its lifespan and structural integrity. *Salt can corrode the steel reinforcement within concrete, compromising the overall strength and safety of the structure. Regular maintenance and timely repairs can extend the life of your concrete surfaces. If you suspect your concrete has been impacted by excessive road salt, contact us at Hammer Construction at 872-328-5586 or visit https://bit.ly/4cIrzXQ for a comprehensive assessment and tailored solutions. #HammerConstruction #ConcreteMaintenance #WinterPrep

There are numerous advantages of using concrete pipe. Reinforced concrete pipe is the only rigid product that is both the structure and the conduit. The combination of concrete and reinforcement provide both compressive and tensile strength to the pipe. Concrete pipe is fire and weather resistant. Free Tensioning: Don't Lose Sight of Prestress Losses! #CivilEngineers ️ Free tensioning, a method in precast concrete, needs careful consideration of prestress losses. There's NO EXTERNAL force to counteract these losses! While specific codes may vary, total losses typically range from 15% to 20% of the initial prestressing force. This accounts for: Elastic shortening (pre-tensioning only) Creep Shrinkage Relaxation of steel Design for these losses to ensure the member remains crack-free and achieves its desired performance! #PrestressedConcrete #EngineeringDesign

Rebound Hammer test done on concrete. What is rebound hammer test 🤔? Also known as the Schmidt Hammer test, is a non-destructive testing method used to assess the compressive strength of concrete. It evaluates the surface hardness of concrete, which can be correlated to its compressive strength. #TGIF #construction #concrete

Cracks smaller than 0.3 mm are generally not serious, but they should be monitored for any growth. Cracks wider than 0.3 mm may indicate structural durability issues. Small, thin cracks usually don't cause problems and can be left alone. However, cracks wider than ⅛” should be sealed with a concrete caulk to prevent them from getting worse. To prevent concrete cracks, you can: Use a proper concrete mix with the right water-cement ratio Use high-quality materials Follow proper finishing procedures and timing Cure the concrete properly Place and vibrate the concrete correctly Install control joints to accommodate shrinkage .
