Startup Expos & Conferences: Worth the Hype? #WhatDoYouThink In the whirlwind world of startups, expos and conferences like the Digital Summit, Wolves Summit, We Make Future and World Business Angels Investment Forum promise to motivate, educate, and connect founders with potential investors. But how effective are they truly? Having attended a variety of these events over 17 years in the startup scene, I've found the Web Summit in Lisbon stands out. It's an electrifying atmosphere where the air buzzes with potential, and you're surrounded by like-minded individuals all striving to push the envelope. Yet, despite the motivational high these summits can provide, I've come to realize that the real meat of startup success isn't found on the expo floor. While 10% of these events might offer a motivational boost, the essence of building a startup—securing investments, closing deals, and advancing business—happens in the trenches of daily work, far removed from the conference hall glamor. This has led me to wonder: Are these events merely a spectacle, or do they hold tangible value for founders beyond a fleeting surge of inspiration? I'm curious to hear your thoughts. Here we are, just a few days away from the application deadline. #Founders, who are #fundraising, this is your last chance to apply for a chance to #pitch in front of hundreds of #investors on 22 April 2024. The last day to apply is Friday, 1 March 2024. In March, our investor partners will be reviewing and rating the applicants (350+ so far). The top 100, the most investable founders at pre-seed to series A stage, will be split by sector and pitch. But this is not just a demo day; it’s a 1-day conference for investors and founders. Investors will be able to attend pitching sessions, as well as the stage with content created specifically for investors (led by SeedLegals), and will have a lot of networking opportunities to meet other investors and LPs.
