In talking about the Seventh of our Nine Rights - "Right Team" - we hear about professional challenges holding people back. In the image below, you'll see what many talented professionals *wish* they had in their workplaces. The + in peach-colored squares indicates from other participants "This is a topic I want to discuss." Are there areas you see for improvement on your own team? Are there items you'd add to this list? (Note: We maintain confidentiality and this is *not* a list from the learning community we have underway this week.) Finding My Voice in Corporate Spaces As I gain more experience, further my education, and grow in my career, I am also learning the importance of self-advocacy. In many professional environments, particularly in corporate America, I’ve observed that if you do not advocate for yourself—strategically and professionally—you risk being overlooked, dismissed, or even undervalued. I used to believe that hard work alone would speak for itself. But the reality is that visibility, confidence, and the ability to address concerns with discretion and professionalism are just as crucial. I’ve learned that advocating for yourself is not about being combative; it’s about setting a standard for how you expect to be treated. Of course, there are times when moving on is the best option. But before I go, I believe in addressing issues head-on—professionally, directly, and unapologetically. Some things may be unintentional, but others are patterns that persist when left unchallenged. My goal is never to be “petty” but to ensure that I am seen, heard, and respected in any space I occupy. This is part of my evolution—standing firm, speaking up, and ensuring that my contributions and presence are acknowledged. To those who have had similar experiences, how do you navigate self-advocacy in your professional journey? #CareerGrowth #ProfessionalDevelopment #WorkplaceCulture #CorporateAmerica #Leadership #SelfAdvocacy #KnowYourWorth #SpeakUp #ConfidenceInTheWorkplace #UnapologeticallyMe #WomenInTheWorkplace #DiversityAndInclusion #EquityAtWork #BlackProfessionals #RepresentationMatters #LeadershipDevelopment #CareerAdvice #WorkplaceWisdom #LetsTalkAboutIt
