October 29th is #VoteEarlyDay – and in less than two weeks, it’ll be #ElectionDay2024. Morning voters!  Happy election day!  As business owners you probably got up extra early to get to the ballots before starting work.  Some of you might even have spent some of that time in the queue at the local church answering work emails from last night.  - Today is going to be a long day. But what about your staff?  Will they be voting?  Do you have shift workers who are going to struggle to get to the ballots before they close tonight?  How about those who travel far to get to the office?  Will they get back in time?  The queues are often long by the afternoons.  What about those with carer responsibilities?  Will they be able to spend the evening in the queue as it winds its way around the village pond?  No one needs to tell us that the results of the election will have a significant impact on how we run our businesses going forward.  So, what are employers doing to support their workers civic duties?  Here are a few examples from some well-known brands - Lush is one company that openly support voter registration initiatives and put in place flexible hours to ensure their employees can get to the ballots on time.   And The Co-operative have always shown a strong community engagement too.  They encourage their staff to vote and provide information and resources to help them make an informed decision at the ballots. Ben & Jerry’s have been known to provide time off for their employees to vote and they’ve run several campaigns emphasising the importance of voting in a healthy democracy. And Brew Dog - known for its bold marketing statements - actively encourage voting and offer paid time off on election day. Civic Responsibility and Community Engagement Being self-aware and informed about your role in the democratic process, such as voting in elections, is a foundational responsibility for every citizen. However, true civic engagement extends far beyond the ballot box. While casting a vote is an essential way to express one’s voice and preferences, it’s just the beginning of active community participation. Going Beyond Voting Voting is a critical first step in shaping the policies and leadership that influence our daily lives. However, a deeper understanding of civic responsibility requires continuous engagement with the community you are a part of. This means being conscious of local issues, participating in community meetings, and staying informed about decisions made at the neighborhood, city, and state levels. A democratic society thrives when its citizens remain active contributors, not just during elections, but throughout the year. Being a Good Community Member Being a good community member involves more than just fulfilling civic duties; it means embracing an ongoing commitment to contribute positively to the environment around you. This can be done through volunteer work, participating in community events, and supporting local businesses and initiatives. Active participation in Residents’ Welfare Associations (RWA), housing societies, and other local organizations is vital in creating a thriving and supportive community. Engagement in Housing Societies and RWAs Participation in your housing society or commercial RWA is a direct way to influence the quality of life within your immediate environment. Regular attendance at meetings, voicing concerns, and collaborating on projects can help address shared issues like security, maintenance, and the development of community resources. Consistency in participation not only ensures that your interests are represented but also fosters a spirit of solidarity and collective responsibility. Consistency and Conscious Effort Awareness and participation should not be limited to times of elections or significant community events. It requires a conscious and consistent effort to engage with and contribute to the well-being of one’s society. Regularly connecting with neighbors, understanding community needs, and offering support where possible are all aspects of being a responsible and committed citizen. In summary, while elections serve as a reminder of our democratic duties, our sense of civic awareness and community responsibility should persist throughout the year. Being self-aware means understanding that democracy is a living process, and our role in it extends far beyond voting—it is about being a proactive, conscious, and consistent member of the community. #elections #haryana #responsibility

Tomorrow is Election Day and every voice matters. I’m proud to share that Ritual has partnered with Chamber of Mothers - a nonpartisan organization that has created an all-in-one resource, called #VoteLikeaMother, to help voters understand where candidates stand on issues near and dear to our hearts like federal paid leave, affordable child care, and maternal health. We’re also ensuring every team member can take the time they need to #votelikeamother by taking PTO and blocking their calendar when they need to step away and vote. Like everything else, we’ve also encouraged our team members to research 🧐 policies, candidates, etc., so they can mark their ballot with 💪 confidence. Text MOTHER to 26797 to receive it and do your research. ✉️ Return your mail-in ballot 3 ways: - By mail, remember no postage is necessary (We don’t recommend leaving it in an unlocked mailbox at your home.) - At any participating Vote by Mail Ballot Drop Box locationAt any Vote Center (Do not hand your ballot to anyone outside of the center. Only hand it to officials inside.) - On Election Day: Take your Valid ID with you, just in case. Complete your sample ballot in advance to make voting live easier. 📣 Things to know! - With record voter turnout in many places, lines could be long. Bring water and pack a snack. - If the polls close while you’re still in line, stay in line – you have the right to vote. - If you make a mistake on your ballot, ask for a new one. - If the machines are down at your polling place, ask for a paper ballot. - If you run into any problems or have questions on Election Day, call the Election Protection Hotline: 1-866-OUR-VOTE 🚗 Need a ride? - Lyft is offering a 50% off discount (or up to $10) on rideshare, bike, and scooter rides to the polls. The antidote to election complacency: Spending time organizing and volunteering in America’s battleground states Washington and Oregon are poised to deliver their electoral votes for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, and have no competitive U.S. Senate races. But they do have competitive U.S. House races (in Washington's 3rd and Oregon's 5th). Those are places where readers wanting to be effective in their activism can make a difference. Another option: volunteering in states like Pennsylvania or Georgia, which will decide the presidential race, or Montana, which will help decide U.S. Senate control. https://lnkd.in/gmdq4f-b

Sites like The League of Women Voters have great resources. 📍 Find Your Polling Place: Locate where you’ll vote and note the hours. Planning your route in advance can save time. 🕒 Set a Time to Vote: Whether it’s in the morning, on your lunch break, or after work, pick a time that works for you. 🚗 Arrange Childcare or Carpooling: If you need to bring children or coordinate a ride, plan with a friend or neighbor. 👤 Bring ID (if needed): Some states require voter ID. For three years, we have been building the foundations of what our country needs most right now: a movement that brings Americans together through social connection, shared service, and civic engagement. In times of uncertainty, remember that some of the most profound acts of patriotism are not fought on battlefields but performed in our own neighborhoods — through a kind word to someone with opposing views, through service to our communities, through the simple act of choosing understanding over judgment. The discussion highlighted the barriers people with disabilities still face in exercising their right to vote.
