"Our thesis in creating ZuCasa was: as a tech society we've done a great job at replicating eyes and ears and a horrible job of replicating the experience of being with other people." ZuCasa's Founder & CEO, Gregory Butler, recently joined Mark Conrad of the Fordham Gabelli School of Business at Fordham University for a conversation on the Sports Business Podcast with Prof C. A range of topics were covered on the convergence of technology and the sports streaming experience, leading off with Mark sharing that "throughout the last century, sports has utilized present and new technologies as a way to draw fans and monetize the product." We couldn't agree more, and we believe that it comes down to a core principle: the end user wants the content, it's not about the means of distribution. Gregory took this a level deeper by sharing with the audience that, as both a media tech founder and a sports fan (especially his LA Clippers), "what I would want, and what I believe every fan would want... is just to be able to watch a sport in the mode that I want it with my friends or family... it's about the access, it's about being in it." This is part of what is at the heart of watch parties on ZuCasa; "it all comes back to community for us... we love seeing people being able to access video - and each other - in a way that is different." Thank you Professor Conrad for hosting us on your pod and we look forward to future episodes. Prasad also discusses: - The brands that took centre stage at the Olympics - How sports sponsorships can go wrong for brands - Untapped opportunities for advertising at sports events - The extent to which programmatic has delivered on its promise

Brands are recognising the immense potential of sports to engage communities and deliver value to fans and customers. The impact of brands on sports today is phenomenal, as they understand the benefits of integrating with clubs and players. This collaboration not only enhances a brand's visibility but also significantly influences athletes' careers and their futures. A prime example is this year's Super Bowl, where the "Taylor Swift effect" brought a wave of new fans to American football. While Taylor Swift’s brand has expanded the sport's audience, it's also led to a decline in long-time fans. This dynamic highlights both the opportunities and challenges brands face in the sports landscape. Jason and Travis Kelce Just Landed a $100 Million Podcast Deal 💵 🎤… Let’s Break It Down. In a 3-year deal with Wondery (Amazon ‘s podcast network) the brothers have given the tech company exclusive audio and video rights to all of the new episodes, as well as the 100 episodes already shared of their podcast ‘New Heights’. 🎙️ Production is already handled by Wave Sports + Entertainment but Wondery now has exclusivity over: advertising sales for the show, right of refusal for new shows the sportsmen want to create, international audio versions of the podcasts, live or experiential events around the podcast, and all merchandise. ❌ This deal is worth more than either brother made during their entire NFL career 💸 and shows how important personal branding and leaning into how media intersects with sport is SO important to build a legacy. 💵 For me, media opens sports stars to a huge mainstream demographic that wouldn’t typically be tuning into their games or matches. It allows icons to create their own narrative that is driven by personality as opposed to performance, which is integral for a career like sport, where one bad injury could mean the bench. 📊 We have seen a huge rise with this media/sport crossover, with professional athletes taking back control and money typically handled by the comglomerates of sport like ESPN. Companies such as Hana Kuma by Naomi Osaka, BEngaged with Hector Bellerin, SpringHill Entertainment by Lebron James, Unanimous Media by Steph Curry, Thirty Five Ventures by Kevin Durant and OF COURSE TOGETHXR by Sue Bird, Alex Morgan, Chloe Kim, and Simone Manuel all act as symbols of athlete empowerment. ⚽️ 🏈 🎾 🏀 Plus, with NIL profitability opening up for collegiate athletes, I have no doubt we will start to see younger athletes capitalise on their booming audiences through regularly-scheduled original media. Will you be tuning into New Heights? What’s your favourite athlete-led media company or podcast? #sportsmedia #businessofsport #sportsdeals #womenssport #media #kelcebrothers #traviskelce #sports #sportsnews
