In this study, authors compared the incidence of cystoid macular edema after vitrectomy and after phacovitrectomy in patients requiring epiretinal membrane removal. They found that Irvine-Gass syndrome appears to be triggered by crystalline lens removal itself rather than intraocular surgery or surgical trauma alone. https://lnkd.in/eahJAfVQ #Ophthalmology #ClinicalResearch #VisionScience #EyeSurgeons

Hypotension prediction index in cardiac surgery: is it accurate? According to recent research, further evaluation and evidence are required before it can be used during cardiac surgery. The manipulation of the heart, the use of bypass, hypothermia, and other factors can lead to inaccuracy, which can result in over-treatment and bleeding. Therefore, more research is needed before relying on this index to predict hypotension accurately. #cardiacsurgery #hypotensionprediction #medicalresearch

Interesting 💡 Lens removal ( phaco ) itself even if uneventful , smooth & neat → is considered to trigger Irvine Gass edema. ( the procedure itself thought to release inflammatory mediators such as Prostaglandins → trigger inflammatory cascade → inflammatory macular edema (Irvine Gass syndrome)
