In this study, authors compared the incidence of cystoid macular edema after vitrectomy and after phacovitrectomy in patients requiring epiretinal membrane removal. Interesting 💡 Lens removal ( phaco ) itself even if uneventful , smooth & neat → is considered to trigger Irvine Gass edema. ( the procedure itself thought to release inflammatory mediators such as Prostaglandins → trigger inflammatory cascade → inflammatory macular edema (Irvine Gass syndrome)
