The continued frustration with Co-op is that despite its senior leadership coming and speaking with myself and colleagues at the AGM in way, promising they would look into this and create an action plan, we have heard nothing from them since, despite polite follow ups. The thing is that the suffering of fast growing chickens is not going away and cannot simply be ignored by the Co-op. We remain determined to ensure that fast growing breeds are phased out in the UK, and the Co-op is very well placed as a self professed ethical supermarket to do this. Basically, we are not going anywhere. We have tried numerous times with Co-op to suggest innovative and pragmatic suggestions on how they could look to phase out fast growing chickens, but they are simply not coming to the table and that needs to change and it needs to change rapidly.
Co-op has already spent too long refusing the votes of its members. The biggest animal welfare crisis happening right now is Frankenchickens, and Co-op can and should lead the way. To stop the suffering of millions, they must stop selling Frankenchickens. #CrueltyAtTheCoop

The British public wants animal welfare standards to be high and enforced, it is therefore of vital importance that the laws that the public, policy-makers and campaigners work so hard to pass through Parliament mean something in practice. Under the current system, there is not one clear authority responsible for enforcing animal welfare laws. And the enforcement agencies differ in each state and territory. This can result in a lack of cohesion and coordination, with animals being subjected to inconsistent outcomes depending on which authority is responsible. That is why we're calling for independent State Animal Welfare Authorities as part of the #FairGoForAnimal reforms. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/eVUgSUzq #animalwelfare #animalwelfarepolicy

A bit late notice but who doesn't love a deadline? The Australian Government is seeking public input on the renewal of the Australian Animal Welfare Strategy (AAWS) which lapsed in 2014. The survey closes 4 pm AEST tomorrow. So have a read of their proposed strategies and make comments/suggestions! Here is my personal adjustment to their vision statement "To establish an Australian animal welfare system that upholds the welfare of all animals, physically, emotionally and cognitively. Through open discussion with all stakeholders; facilitated by experts in the animal welfare field. To identify national priorities and create actions and outcomes that will elevate the Australian animal welfare standards to a level of international excellence" https://lnkd.in/gXmzHgwt
