Recent data on price inflation has the RBA a little worried. We think retailers should be a little concerned too, for a different reason. Retail price inflation is falling faster than overall living cost pressures. Electronics, furniture and sporting goods are in deflation. Overall retail inflation was 2.6% in the June 2024 quarter, with a broad measure of other living costs up 5.7%. The problem with low inflation for retailers is their cost growth is not necessarily low - wages and rents are rising at 4%-5% for most retailers. https://lnkd.in/gGPAwd9D
