🌍 Understanding the GSTC Hotel Criteria: A Guide to Sustainable Hospitality If your not aware of the GSTC I want to introduce you to the great efforts they are undertaking to create a more sustainable future for the industries they support. Sustainability in hospitality is not just a trend; it's a vital commitment to the well-being of our planet and its people. The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) Hotel Criteria provide a globally recognized framework for hotels aiming to operate sustainably. Here’s a breakdown of some of the key components of the GSTC Hotel Criteria: 1. Sustainable Management: -Develop and implement a sustainability management system. -Ensure continuous improvement through regular monitoring and reporting. 2. Social and Economic Benefits for the Local Community: -Support local employment and fair wages. -Promote local procurement to stimulate the local economy. -Engage with and support local communities and their development. 3. Cultural Heritage Preservation: -Respect and promote local culture and traditions. -Provide authentic and respectful cultural experiences for guests. -Support the conservation of cultural heritage sites and practices. 4. Environmental Impact Reduction: -Minimize resource consumption (energy, water) and waste production. -Implement measures to reduce pollution and promote recycling. -Conserve biodiversity and protect natural habitats. The GSTC Criteria are designed to guide hotels of all sizes and types towards more sustainable operations. By following these guidelines, hotels can: -Enhance their environmental performance. -Strengthen their social responsibility. -Improve their economic sustainability. Sustainable practices are not just beneficial for the environment; they also enhance guest satisfaction, improve operational efficiencies, and build a positive brand reputation. As travelers become increasingly eco-conscious, hotels that adopt and promote sustainable practices will stand out in the competitive hospitality landscape. I’m in complete agreement with the message highlighted in this article. It is hard enough for a Travel Professional like me, certified in Sustainable Tourism and committed to It, to navigate through all the labels in an attempt to promote hotels that are actively managing and improving on their sustainability journey. Imagine what’s like for a consumer, navigating through this search on their own, when embracing a responsible traveler mindset? #traveladvisor #sustainabletravel #sustainabletourism

Hostelworld Group Joins Forces with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) to Create a New Sustainability Framework for the Hostel Industry. The ‘Staircase to Sustainability’ framework, built in line with the GSTC Criteria, aims to provide hostels with a clear pathway to communicate their sustainability management practices, as well as acknowledge their socio-economic, cultural, and environmental impact. Caroline Sherry, CFO and ESG Lead at Hostelworld Group said: “While there is a sustainability framework for hotels, our hostel partners have voiced that the existing frameworks do not adequately address the unique characteristics of the independent hostel market. This is why over the past 18 months we’ve dedicated our time, working in close partnership with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council, to craft this pioneering framework for the hostelling sector. The unwavering support and willingness of the GSTC to deep dive into the distinct needs of hostels has been instrumental in shaping this framework.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/dXJJaSTq #Hostelword #GSTC #GSTCNews #Sustainability #Framework #Hostels #StaircasetoSustainability

The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) is pleased to announce that the “Sustainable Operations Guidelines” of Six Senses has gained GSTC-Recognized Standard status, meaning that the guidelines document has been fully recognized as equivalent to the GSTC Industry Criteria. Neil Jacobs, CEO of Six Senses, said: “Sustainability drives every decision we make at Six Senses. Quite simply, it’s non-negotiable. Sustainability has been ingrained in our DNA from day one in 1995, long before it became a focus for others in the luxury hospitality space. We lead by example through who we are, what we do, and the experiences we deliver to our guests. You could say Six Senses was a pioneer in that sense.” Jeff Smith, Vice President of Sustainability, added: “Sustainability is at the heart of all that we do, and it’s important to clearly define exactly what we aim to achieve. Over the past three years, my team, with great support from our operational departments, has been upgrading our policy framework, Six Senses Sustainable Operations Guidelines. The previous version has been in place since 2014, and with these extensive revisions, we have taken the additional step of requesting a review from GSTC. The feedback we received was valuable, and we are thrilled to have achieved GSTC recognition status for our guidelines.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/dFuMtEPf #GSTC #GSTCNews #GSTCRecognizedStandard #SixSenses #sustainability Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas
