Sometimes things don’t go according to plan. That’s what happened with the Go-Pro on Gareth Bright and Virgil’s first training session. It was switched off when it was meant to be on. Not surprising, considering how muddy it was out there! We promised updates on their Dawn to Dusk Enduro race training, and this was the first ever enduro riding Gareth has ever done. So, even though there’s not a great amount to see here, we hope you get the idea! Read all about their epic challenge here: https://bit.ly/49P2f0n #motorsport #racing #automotive #motorcycle #motorcycleracing #endurance

The Mercedes-Benz 190E Cosworth. Mercedes-Benz's collaboration with Cosworth birthed one of the most iconic cars of its era: the Mercedes-Benz 190E Cosworth. Developed for Group A touring car racing it had a lively 2.3-liter inline-four engine built by Cosworth, with a full 16 valves and dual overhead camshafts. With 185 horsepower under the bonnet, it packed a serious punch for its day. But it wasn't just about raw power; the 190E Cosworth was engineered with enhanced suspension, brakes, and aerodynamics this gave it fantastic handling on both track and road. The success of the 190E 2.3-16 in motorsport, mainly in DTM racing, helped to cement its reputation as an icon of the era and with a combination of luxury, performance, and motorsport heritage why wouldn't you love this 80's legend #MercedesBenz #Cosworth #AutomotiveHistory #ClassicCars

People don’t realize that motorsport is “pay to play” Outside of Formula 1, a very small % of drivers are “paid”. Most drivers, including professional drivers, pay to get behind the wheel. Here’s how I found myself behind the wheel of a Mercedes AMG GT4 last year. FOCUSED ON MONEY BEFORE RACING I focused on making money before focusing on racing. If every time I made a few dollars, I blew it on going to the track, I’d never have been able to re-invest in building a business which is what allowed me to invest in racing. If you want to drive race cars, invest in becoming good at building businesses first. That is what let me sell my company for $16.7M in 5 years. BOUGHT A TRACK DAY CAR I had no idea where to start. After doing some research it seemed that the Mazda Miata and BMW E46 were the best options for new drivers. Reliable, has lots of parts, and lots of people drive these at the track. I spent 30k on a 2004 BMW E46. TRACK DAYS I was 30 years old so I knew that if I wanted a chance at competing with people who have been driving for years, I needed to make track days my #1 priority. I made the deal with myself, If after a full year of track days, I’m progressing well, I’ll invest in a race season. YEAR ONE I joined the 18-race regional race series CASC. After the first 8 races, I was running at the bottom of the pack. During the second half of the season, we swept and took home 11 podiums and 8 race wins eventually winning the overall championship. A testament to being willing to fail before you can succeed. This was about $5k per weekend for a total of $30k. YEAR TWO An opportunity came up to get with a team that had a Mercedes AMG GT4. At a cost of about $50k per race weekend including the car, support, tires, and insurance, I did 4 pro races. This time, I did jump up too fast. I love the GT4 platform, but I made the mistake of thinking that with just 3 test days, I could handle the car on tracks I hadn’t driven before. Time to bring back the year 1 mentality.

It's a bit tricky to explain what Understeer and Oversteer are and how to deal with it on the road or track. And also how to steer the car with the Throttle--An Awesome Technique. I wrote this for a Moto X Racer who is looking to get into racing cars. I deleted his name for anonymity. "Here is a bit of headstart. We'll get more into this on SKYPE. This has to do with Understeer and Oversteer. And how we can steer the car with the throttle in a corner, but without changing the position of steering wheel from where we have it set. Understeer or Oversteer are usually present during our initial turn into a corner. As we are transitioning from traveling straight ahead into our corner. Understeer basically means that the car turns in less than it ordinarily might. Oversteer is the opposite. It turns aggressively. And back of the car might even come around and we could spin. I'm sure you experience Oversteer all the time in Moto. You light up the rear tire in a corner and the bike can almost spin on its own axis. You may have done that in a car in the snow doing donuts. Drifters do this to. This is Power Oversteer and with proper "EYE TECHNIQUE" it is fairly easy to control. But different than how we steer the car using Oversteer in a racing situation. And we'll get into why this is so later. FYI All street cars Understeer. They are built at the factory to do that. Even High Performance Cars all Understeer. I've never driven a HyperCar but if it's Street Legal it has have a touch of Understeer. More on why later. Neutral Steer exists but usually Only as a function of our understanding and expertise in how to balance the car with the throttle. BTW when we talk about balance it's weight distribution front to rear. Throttle Steering: now as we are in our imaginary turn, and we are holding the steering wheel steady as we corner. If the car starts to turn less that it was--we come off the throttle a bit. That transfers more weight onto the front tires and so the car starts to turn more sharply. The more weight a tire has on it the better it grips. VIP: We must be very cautious in how we come off the throttle in a corner. Typically we would blip the throttle (lift off and then quickly squeeze it back on) or use multiple blips. The reason is in a corner it is the throttle that is keeping the rear of the car glued to the pavement--therefore lifting off of throttle will likely cause a spin. To correct Oversteer in our same imaginary corner, we add throttle. That takes some weight Off of the front tires making them turn less. This is an overview. And there is much more to wrap our heads around. We'll get there. Please let me know if you have any questions about this" https://lnkd.in/eEncFd4R

Having worked with NASCAR and clients related to Formula 1 race car design, I've come to appreciate the excitement, speed, and yes, even the noise of professional auto racing. If you've ever been on pit road during a race at #Daytona, you know what I'm talking about. That's why I'm genuinely anticipating the rise of Formula E. While it may take time for high-performance E racing to gain widespread acceptance and viewership, it's worth the wait for both sustainability and diversification. It's a natural progression of the amazing science and technology that already drive racing, and it's where we need to go from an environmental perspective. #FormulaE #AutoRacing #Sustainability #Innovation
