I went on a coffee hunt in Fortitude Valley last week and witnessed this. Being one of the cafes in the same street, the one twenty cafe stood out for this little effort. An intuitive way of inviting customers just made the inner marketer in me so damn happy that I instantly chose that cafe. And trust me, coffee is as great as their invite! Having a little fun and creativity around your customer touchpoints is nothing less important than the product quality. After a day of insightful talks I wanted to share my five key take aways from the Hostech 2024 conference: 🔑 Data is key. By gathering as much data on your customers, you are able to deliver effective marketing messages to the right people at the right time. This doesn't just mean collecting their name and age; but understanding their spend habits, visit frequency, order habits, who they come with etc. 👪 Profile your customers. Once you have gathered as much data on your customer base as possible, profile them into segments. Consider their mindset, the things they care about and their pain points. Examples of these customer profiles could be 'Business Diners' or 'Special Occassion Goers'. 📝 Personalisation drives success. Now that you have collected the data about your customer base and you have grouped them into segments, be sure to use this to your advantage. Personalise your marketing and communications strategies to fit the specific audiences. If you are talking to a Gen Z audience, speak their language. If you are talking to steak lovers, lead with steak photography. 📲 Customer convenience. Review your whole customer journey and look for improvements to add more convenience for the user. Example of this is include having loyalty cards in Apple Wallet, GAIL's Bakery adding ordering kiosks, JKS Restaurants allowing customers to book private dining online through SevenRooms instead of having to enquire via email or The Ivy collection merging 52 websites into one to create a centralised journey for customers with a focus on ease of booking. 📲 Drive sign ups. It is important to consistently get new engaged users into your CRM to be able to gather more data and effectively market to this audience. The best way to drive sign ups is by incentivising customers, such as PizzaExpress giving free dough balls to new app users. Another acquisition method is encouraging staff to promote sign ups from customers, which has worked well for Mixr (Stonegate Group). There was plenty of interesting talks through out the day with my favourite three being Jon Davis (The Ivy), Arslan Sharif (Pizza Express) and Rosie Hill (Gail’s Bakery). #hostech #restaurant #hospitality #hospitalitymarketing #technology
