Chapter 1 : What is Roshan Punjab? In the introductory story of this series, I highlighted the source of motivation behind this project and the world we want to create. This chapter will delve into the details of what exactly is Roshan Punjab. At Joti Foundation , we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to see their world clearly. The Roshan Punjab initiative aims at tackling vision impairment among school children in Punjab. Launched in October 2023, this project is dedicated to screening every government school child in the state and providing free spectacles to those in need. Our goal is ambitious but essential: to screen all 2.9 million children in Punjab, making it the first state in India to ensure every child has access to eye care. This initiative goes beyond just providing spectacles, it’s about opening up a world of opportunities for children, empowering them to thrive in school and life.Through this initiative we are addressing 4 A’s : Accessibility, Affordability, Awareness and Acceptability. Stay tuned as we dive deeper into why this initiative is so critical and the impact we hope to achieve. #RoshanPunjab #ClearVision #JotiFoundation #ChildHealth #EyeCare #transforminglives #children

Children's Day: Investing in Our Future 🌍👧👦 Today, we celebrate the most important people in the world—our children. Whether it’s Universal Children's Day on November 20th or the celebration on November 14th in India to honor Jawaharlal Nehru, Children's Day is a reminder of one simple truth: our future depends on how we treat the next generation. Children deserve more than just survival. They deserve the right to thrive. They need access to quality education, health care, and, most importantly, the freedom to dream big. But let’s not forget, this day isn’t just about balloons and cake. It's about addressing the hard truths—millions of children still face barriers to education, live in unsafe environments, or are victims of exploitation and abuse. The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, adopted in 1989, serves as a reminder that every child, regardless of where they live, deserves a chance to grow, learn, and be heard. So, today, let's celebrate the future by taking action. Advocate for better policies, invest in education, and protect the rights of every child, because every investment in children is an investment in a brighter, better tomorrow. 🌟 #ChildrensDay #InvestInChildren #FutureLeaders #EducationForAll #ProtectKids #UniversalChildrensDay

Early Childhood Development for Viksit Bharat Investing in Early Childhood Development (ECD) is essential for realizing the vision of a "Viksit Bharat," or a developed India. In Viksit Bharat, every component of ECD like access to quality early childhood education, nutrition, and healthcare services shall be prioritized to ensure cognitive, emotional, and social skills development needed to thrive. By focusing on the early years, India can cultivate a generation of healthy, well-educated, and capable citizens who can drive economic growth and foster social harmony. It is essential to address the gaps in access to quality ECD services, particularly for children from vulnerable/marginalized communities. Expanding the reach and quality of Anganwadi (rural child care centers), pre-schools, and maternal newborn health services is vital to providing all children with a strong start in life. Ensuring inclusive and equitable services will help bridge the developmental gaps that often hinder the potential of children from disadvantaged backgrounds, thereby contributing to a more inclusive and equitable society. The economic and social returns of investing in ECD are substantial, making it a wise strategy for building a Viksit Bharat. Research has shown that every dollar invested in early childhood programs yields significant returns in terms of better educational outcomes, improved health, and increased economic productivity. By prioritizing ECD, India can not only enhance the quality of life for its youngest citizens but also lay the groundwork for a more prosperous and developed nation. This investment is not just in today's children but in the future leaders, innovators, and builders of Viksit Bharat. #ECD #earlychildhooddevelopment #ViksitBharat #socialcohesion #sdh #healthequity #UHC #inclusivehealth #healthforall #healthinall #everychildmatters

For the past 2 years, I have been witnessing the hard-hitting reality of India, which I would have never seen if I hadn't started Let's Educate Children In Need (LECIN). I always wonder—who is at fault? The overburdened administration? The underpaid staff workers? Or the NGOs and civil society organizations trying hard to sustain themselves while CSR funding focuses more on FLN, employment, and other domains where tangible outcomes, like jobs, are visible? In these 2 years, we've faced numerous rejections for our proposals, and the reasons are often disheartening: - Combined Anganwadis and Primary Schools: Schools have unclean washrooms, grounds filled with trash, and an overall lack of maintenance because cleaning staff are underpaid and overworked, leading to neglected hygiene and maintenance. This has led to rejections of our proposals. - Perception of Worthiness: Many funders feel ECD is not a worthy cause because the long-term impact, such as job attainment 15 years down the line, isn't guaranteed. Hence, our proposals often get rejected. - Lack of Unique Selling Proposition (USP): Some funders believe that many organizations are already working on ECD, so our proposals lack a unique appeal, resulting in further rejections. These challenges have only strengthened my resolve to work on Early Childhood Development. It's crucial to create awareness and help people understand the significance of ECD in a country like India, where issues like lack of civic sense, high stress and anxiety, poor emotional regulation, and increasing crime and diabetes rates are prevalent. A robust ECD program can help address these issues and create better citizens. Research supports this, demonstrating the long-term benefits of quality ECD programs on societal well-being. Despite the obstacles, we will continue to advocate for this cause and support young children who often face trauma, abuse, and poor quality of early education in many parts of the country.
