Recently, Anand Mahindra was spotted delivering a speech at the 4th Atal Bihari Vajpayee Memorial Lecture. An interesting excerpt of the speech was shared as a video by Harsh Goenka on X. In the video, the Mahindra Group chairman, Anand Mahindra, cited a personal anecdote involving his one-year-old daughter's accident to convey a piece of business advice. In his speech, Mahindra recounted a painful episode in 1987 when his one-year-old daughter suffered a hand injury that required microsurgery. He tried to find the best surgeons in London and Paris, but none could cure his daughter's illness. Eventually, his Parisian doctor gave him the contact information of a highly experienced Mumbai doctor named Dr. Joshi. Fortunately, the treatment at Dr Joshi panned out successfully. "After the surgery, he stitched into my daughter's tiny fingernail, a simple metal eye hook of the kind you'll find in a blouse. The total cost of that device is two rupees. Miraculously, it worked. A decade later, my daughter was playing the piano with the same hand," Mahindra said in his speech. Mahindra believed Dr Joshi's simple solution was innovative, healing his daughter while also leaving a lasting impression about the capabilities of his own country. "Always look for solutions in your backyard before you think the best solution lies overseas. And how did this affect me and my career? Well, I'm certain there after that, when it came to making big decisions and big bets in business that were based on homegrown technology, I never again lacked the courage to do so," Mahindra added. #startuppedia #mahindra #anandmahindra #startupadvice #entrepreneurship

Embracing Shared Knowledge.. #Knowledgesharing Cross-pollination of ideas through knowledge sharing sparks creativity and innovation.Exposing individuals to different ways of thinking and approaches encourages experimentation and breakthroughs. I had the opportunity to conduct a workshop on Head and Neck #Cancer #awareness among #Dentists of Bihar at the MAC-CON, 2024 under the Aegis of Indian Dental Association , Bihar state held in Muzaffarpur, Bihar in March 2024. In a knowledge-driven economy, the ability to effectively share and leverage knowledge is a strategic imperative. By cultivating a culture of collaboration, accelerating learning and problem-solving, driving innovation, and enhancing decision-making, organizations and individuals can unlock their full potential. Embracing knowledge sharing not only fosters growth and innovation but also strengthens relationships and builds resilient communities in an increasingly interconnected world.

India has made incredible strides in eye health, eliminating trachoma and achieving great progress with cataract surgeries! What we need to focus next is undoubtedly improving access to refractive services. Based on this strategic direction from Government of India, WHO is working towards improving access to refractive services and spectacles in India, starting with a demonstration project in the state of Assam. In this regard we're bringing together key stakeholders in Guwahati on November 21st & 22nd to develop a scalable global model for implementing the WHO's SPECS strategy in similar settings. If your organization is passionate about eye health and can contribute to this effort, we'd love to hear from you! Contact me (bappirambharathm@who.int/ +919946105498) or our national consultant Dr Sushma Adappa (Dr.Sushma Adappa). Dr B Mohammed Asheel, Country focal point for Injuries, Disabilities, Rehabilitation and Assistive Technology, WHO India. NB: This is not an official notification. The objective of this post is to ensure that we are not missing out any key players/ potential collaborations in this area. All such future engagements (if any) with WHO will be subjected to WHO_FENSA (Framework for Engagement with Non-State Actors) clearance. #SPECS #RefractiveErrors #Spectacles #AssistiveTechnology #Ophthalmology #Eyecare EyeCare Partners,L V PRASAD EYE INSTITUTE,All India Ophthalmological Society AIOS,Optometrist
