For the next 12 months we're celebrating 200 years of braille! We have a number of resources to help schools celebrate too, teaching children about what braille is, its history, and how it's used. #Braille200 📚 https://lnkd.in/dtJ6ZRVw [Image description: "We have braille resources for schools!" in text with a visual representation of the braille above, separated by a pink line. How much does braille cost? The answer may be more complex than you think. A lot of work goes in to quality braille. A two-page letter requires a lot less work than a large end-of-year report with tables and graphs. Because of the differences in document complexity, we need to see your file before giving a price. That way we can give you the best, and more fair, price possible. Check out other factors that affect the cost of braille and other accessible formats in the link below. 👀 #Braille #Accessibility

Everyone has the right to ask an organisation for copies of information held about them. Some disabled people may experience communication difficulties and may therefore have difficulty making a subject access request (SAR). Every organisation has a legal duty to make reasonable adjustments if they wish to make a request. ❓ What is a reasonable adjustment will depend on the specific needs of the individual? Before responding to a SAR you should talk to the person to find out how best to meet their needs. This may be by providing the response in a particular format that is accessible to the person, including Braille. If an individual thinks you have failed to make a reasonable adjustment, they can make a claim under the Equality Act 2010 or the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (NI). FACT FRIDAY Braille is read by moving one or more fingers along each line. Both hands are usually involved in the reading process, and reading is generally done with the index fingers. Usually, one hand reads the majority of one line while the other hand locates the beginning of the next. The average braille reading speed is around 125 words per minute, but speeds of up to 200 words per minute are possible. (loc.gov) Sensory Solutions offers a wide range of braille products to cater to a variety of needs. To view these products, you can visit our website at bit.ly/braillerange.
