6:20am, Saturday Bus stop and market as social spaces. A group of elders chatting while waiting for the bus to go to the market. My mum loves to go to the market too, regardless of whether she has something to buy. The main activity is not getting groceries, it is chatting with the stallholders she knows so well to know what is happening in the neighbourhood. Daily activity but so important for the elders to stay connected. Two “community spaces” that are important in our neighbourhood for elders to connect - bus stops and markets for chanced encounters and conversations. There’s no such thing as a ‘neutral space’. The places and spaces around us can have a positive or negative impact on whether, how, when, and where we move. Parks offer so much more than just green space, and can help contribute to: Healthier communities – parks encourage physical activity, reduce stress, and provide spaces for social interaction, leading to happier and healthier residents. Stronger communities – well-maintained parks become hubs for community events, fostering a sense of belonging and pride. Sustainable future – parks act as natural filters, improving air and water quality while mitigating climate change impacts. This is why we, alongside Sport England are helping to create opportunities around community spaces by inspiring local communities to influence owners or increase their own capability to use and sustain these spaces themselves, through advice, training and resources. This month saw the adoption of the City Of Dunsmuir Active Transportation Plan, the culmination of months of #communityengagement, visioning, and clarifying conversations toward creating more safe and accessible transportation options. Throughout the project span, community members and local leaders were engaged to affirm community needs and aspirations; evaluate key issues; and develop a prioritized list of pedestrian, bicycle, and #transit solutions. In addition, in areas with the most walkability, there are often more green spaces, which can play an important role in creating a sense of connection between citizens. Reducing traffic and increasing urban livability are among the other benefits of 15-minute cities that can lead to an increase in urban satisfaction, while easy access to all facilities minimizes the anxiety caused by traveling long distances among citizens.

Whether a javelin is thrown a little over 90 meters or a little under does not make any difference to the lived reality of 100s of millions of people walking and using the streets of 100 of cities and towns in India. Olympics is not the real game. The real game is giving ourselves the best possible walking experience on the streets. Giving ourselves cutting edge street design. Greedily implementing everything best that is happening globally in this domain. Treating 1.4 billion with respect. When we do that, the medals will come. Please have a look at the video below. We have a come a very long way in one year and added huge amount of value to the community. No corporate sponsor is going to line up to support us like they support the Olympic athletes. We need hundreds of conscientious individuals to step in. Last year we had only 45 individuals step in enabling a raise of Rs. 1.8 lakhs a year, with a bulk of the lifting done by 10 individuals. We are thankful to all of them to help bring the project out of hibernation. We need to raise at the very least Rs. 25 lakhs to be able to do everything that we want to do. We should be in action everyday, not sitting and waiting for funds. Rs. 25 lakhs should take one day to raise.
