The Bridge Inn Road Upgrade in Melbourne's northern suburbs has reached a significant milestone with the opening of all lanes to traffic. This project, delivered by Major Road Projects Victoria and head contractor Laing O'Rourke, aims to reduce travel times, improve safety, and enhance connectivity to local amenities, including Mernda's train station and town centre. Key features of the upgrade include: ▪️ Additional Lanes: Expansion of Bridge Inn Road to accommodate increased traffic flow. ▪️ Intersection Improvements: Upgrades to key intersections to facilitate smoother traffic movement. ▪️ Safety Enhancements: Installation of safety barriers and construction of shared paths for pedestrians and cyclists. ▪️ New Bridge Construction: A new four-lane bridge over Plenty River, with the historic bluestone bridge repurposed as a shared path. While major works are complete, minor tasks such as landscaping and finishing touches will continue in the coming months. This photo was taken in 1919, most people and Torontoni know this area very well as you drive on Don Valley Parkway (DVP) these day. You can see how wide was the Don River and extended land surrounding the river and in background you can see the Bloor viaducts bridge under construction. The first two arches were converted to DVP highway and we drives underneath everyday as you head south or North from/To Toronto. This is one one of reasons we as humans were messing up with nature. We converted rivers and shore lines to accommodate infrastructure that shouldn’t be there in first place. That one of reason we reduced Don river to a thin strip that overflow water due to heavy rain no where to go. City planning should encourage integration with nature environment and not destroying it. It is time for more public transportation and smart integration with environment.

The Beams Road Upgrade in Brisbane's northside has reached a significant milestone with the completion of its first stage, effectively alleviating a major traffic bottleneck. The newly upgraded 1.3-kilometre section between Lacey Road and Balcara Avenue in Carseldine is now fully operational, benefiting approximately 20,000 commuters daily. Key Enhancements: ▪️ Intersection Improvement: The previous roundabout at Dorville Road has been replaced with a signalised intersection, enhancing safety for both drivers and pedestrians. ▪️ Road Widening: Key sections, including the Dorville Road intersection, have been expanded from two to four lanes to improve traffic flow and accommodate active transport. ▪️ Active Transport Infrastructure: A new shared path along Beams Road has been constructed for pedestrians and cyclists, complemented by pedestrian-activated crossings. ▪️ Environmental Considerations: The project includes the planting of 235 native trees and grasses along the corridor, contributing to the local ecosystem. The Bielby Holdings JF Hull Holdings Pty Ltd Joint Venture has been awarded the main construction contract, bringing together expertise to deliver this critical infrastructure upgrade. Its Wayback Wednesday ! With the current press and the establishment of the High Speed Rail Authority in 2023, the team have taken a look back at one of the most critical pieces of rail infrastructure on the northern outskirts of Sydney. The current rail bridge at Brooklyn north of Sydney traverses the Hawkesbury River and carries the Main North Railway Line. The bridge was one of the key network assets that connected the state capitals Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney & Brisbane and was a major engineering achievement at that time. Work commenced on the bridge in 1939 but wasn't completed until 1946. The bridge was positioned upstream of the original bridge and consists of 8 spans and piers sunk to depths of 180+ft. Construction of the bridge spans were completed on the northern side of Long Island, placed onto barges and then floated to the correct locations adjacent the piers at high-tide. The original railway bridge to the east was constructed in 1889 and the original concrete and sandstone pylons from this bridge are still present to this day and were at the time sunk to record depths of 150+ft below the high-water mark. MassDOT has shared initial designs for the Sagamore Bridge replacement project, marking a significant upgrade over the Cape Cod Canal. The plan includes building two new three-lane bridges, with construction expected to start in 2028 after completing the necessary permits and environmental reviews. The new bridges will feature higher elevations to address sea level rise, dedicated entry and exit lanes, and a pedestrian and bike path on one of the spans.
