Every year over 3 million lives are lost because they are not able to get time-critical help when they need it most. The problem is particularly acute in rural areas where emergency response times are extended by long distances and geographic obstacles -- contributing to statistically worse patient outcomes. Electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft #evtols enable a solution to this problem that was previously not economically viable: because they are 100% electric, they can go to full power without any warmup -- without paying any maintenance penalty (unlike conventionally fueled aircraft). This capability combined with lower direct operating costs enables the practical deployment of rural emergency response #evtol services with life-saving potential. This is the use-case that Jump Aero Incorporated is pursuing. It is the top priority for government agencies because it provides a clear public good and ranks much higher in social acceptance than getting rich people to the airport faster. Some other points in favor of this use case: 1) The market for EMS VTOLs today (helicopters) is larger than the helicopter air taxi market -- making it a lower risk investment. 2) Medical use cases are also a more rapidly growing sector than passenger movement if you look at the financials of real-world operators like BLADE who work in both passenger transit and organ transplant. 3) Aircraft at their most fundamental level are time machines. Time is valued most highly in life-critical emergencies. Operators can therefore afford to be "more wrong" in their estimates of the real-world cost of operations and still produce a sustainable business. I encourage all eVTOL manufacturers and potential operators to invest in the use of their aircraft for these types of missions for the good of the industry and society at large. #aam

National League of Cities launched the Aviation Advisory Forum on Air Mobility and Drone Integration at #CitySummit24 The Aviation Advisory Forum will advise the federal government and the #AAM industry on how to integrate emerging flight technologies into existing transportation networks and our communities. One interesting question for cities: how will AAM affect the urban form? Adding circuits to ground based transportation networks can be costly and disruptive. Will adding them in the airspace support the network effects of cities and nodes, or flatten the urban form?
